JoJo actually looked good tonight.
Okay so the forward group and D are better than last season. Goaltending will once again decide if we make the playoffs or not. All we need is league average goaltending from both guys.
Hard to know how much the blackhawks actually suck, however I noticed a few things. As a knee jerk reacting beer drinking fan who watches almost every game here is what I thought stood out:
1. Marat looked really good. After the first period he started to get creative and looked confident. I was very impressed given his past which has been decent but not outstanding.
2. Fleury looked good. I’m a realist and his numbers with the Wild quite frankly suck, he is one of the all time greats no doubt, but he has been lackluster statistically. However he looked dialed in, on his game and ready. I hate goalies but Flower looked as good as he ever was.
3. If we stay healthy we will be a good team. The defense played outstanding, the forwards were creative, and seemed to be in sync with each other. The only part I didn’t care for was the careless stick play by Hartman. He looked to have some habits from his bad old days and that needs to change.
That said I think we have a poor draw in getting CBJ as a first game. With the death of JG and Deano behind the bench this could be a trap game for sure even at home.
First one I got to see live from beginning to end and not just highlights. Fun time with a score like that. I think many of the prognosticators are sleeping on us this season (seriously, I saw one prognosticator put us at 7th place). Sturdier goaltending and better injury luck might mean a playoff birth. We’ll see. I’m not going to take too much stock in a preseason game against a team expected to finish near the bottom, but I enjoyed what I saw out there.
Can it be Thursday already?
The squad looks absolutely DIALED IN this preseason. I know it’s just preseason and it’s just Chicago but we had more or less the complete starting lineup in tonight and last game. The speed and chemistry with which we are playing is impeccable. Keep it up and we might just get into the playoffs again this season before we really get this organization running on all cylinders next year.
I don’t usually follow preseason but Kaprizov is 4g3a in 3 games played. Does he usually go this hard in preseason? I’ve said it since the playoffs i believe Kirill will come out swinging this season.
