Jake Allen ended with 17 saves and Jack Hughes had a pair of dimes, including one to Paul Cotter’s eventual winner as the New Jersey Devils swept the Global Series with a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

    Sabres team defence is total shambles. It doens't matter who you put into the net if the attitude is that of 14 year olds first time on ice. Wtf happened to Lindy Ruff? Or was it because Sabres back then was full of defensive specialist forwards and stay-home defencemen…and I don't even have to mention Hasek. Now they are happy go lucky run and gun team with no cohesion.

    The Devils are the type of team that good teams beat, Buffalo is the type of team that makes the sport unwatchable. It really is a pathetic league and it’s not a surprise that hockey is the least popular spectator sport among baseball, basketball and football. Nobody watches the NHL and there’s no reason to watch for a good 1/4 of NHL fans. It’s really comes down to this: the NHL Draft. The NHL Draft is the worst draft in all of professional sports because players are drafted at such a young age you have no idea what you’re getting. It’s just like playing the lottery, the Sabres have had the first or second pick in the draft multiple times recently and they never end up with a difference maker. Player movement is nonexistent unless you’re a terrible team that gets tricked into trading good players for more meaningless draft picks. Having the best organizational depth in hockey means nothing. The Sabres are the Montreal Expos of hockey, they’ll never win again in this league and the same can be said for any of the perennial bottom feeders. The NHL needs to stop letting players be drafted in their teens unless they’re willing to guarantee a roster spot. Problem solved. Then the league needs to stop restricting player movement and make free agency meaningful. It’s a league of haves and have nots and nothing seems to change.
