The Wild could have sent Ohgren and Wallstedt to Iowa as well Saturday or in the upcoming days. That move would at least allow the team to accrue some cap space until they’re needed. But management and the coaching staff have decided both rookies earned roster spots to start the season.
That doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll play on opening night, but it’ll allow them to continue to be around the NHL team, practice with the Wild and make their season debuts when needed.
They could also place seventh defenseman Jon Merrill on waivers. If Merrill played in Iowa, the Wild would save $1.15 million of his $1.2 million off their cap.

Question now is does Hynes have the stones to put Ohgren in first thing. I don’t see why they would keep him up if they weren’t.
ideal forward lines for opening night:
Kap – Rossi – Zucc
Ohgren – Ek -Boldy
Foligno – Hartman – Trenin
Lauko – Khus – Gaudreau
waiver Merrill and put Johanson in the press box even tho he had a good game yesterday. Keep Hunt in the bottom D pair and swap him with Bogo depending on the match up
Ohgren making it really surprises me. I wonder if they’re going to move Johansson in the next week. I can’t see them wanting Ohgren in the press box, nor Johansson’ $2 million. And Lauko ain’t coming off that 4th line.
The less fun alternative is that Body might not be ready for game 1, but that seems unlikely given the reporting on his injury and the fact that he’s been practicing.
Awesome. I’m really excited for both of them to get more time this year
