This thread is going to be filled with rational, respectful dialogue between peers.

    >Kasper

Wack. Ah well. He’ll get a shot this season at some point, surely.

  3. whitelightning91

Oh boy, some takes will be given in this thread

  4. xenonwarrior666

Pretty bullshit the one guy busting his ass in camp gets the door while other guys are coasting.

    Oh well “trust the process”

  5. coltron57

We saw last year how important even one game can be in the standings. With 82 of them, that “one game” could be any of the 82 games. Kasper makes this team better and it’s a shame that it looks like he won’t have the chance to make the team better for 82 games this year.

  6. FlynnLive5

Kasper by Halloween or Thanksgiving. Not worried about

  7. detroitttiorted

Bummed Kasper is going down but he’ll be up eventually with injuries I’m sure

  8. Ready for the downvotes, but they should not have resigned Ras. Obviously Copp is a roadblock in the lineup, too, but 27’s contract and lack of offense is a tough one to me.

Also, did they need Fischer and Motte? No room for the kids.

  9. BellsBeersy

Only ones I’m a little surprised by are Kasper not making it since Holl was waived, and also MBN could have been exciting in Grand Rapids. I guess I saw this coming though.

Watson will provide an element the team has sorely missed. Also I’m sure Kasper is #1 on the list when injuries come along for our forwards.

  10. jonlob_40

Was really hoping waiving Holl was mainly to make room for Kasper but oh well. From the little I saw he should be up in Detroit sooner than later…. Right?

  11. Ecstatic_Ant_7753

Little upset kasper isn’t staying in nhl… but having a guy like Watson will be great for the 4th line

  12. Danengel32

Saw someone bring it up that there’s a chance this is a paper move for Kasper since the Wings don’t play until Thursday. The paper move part is that they have the flexibility to try to waive someone to GR after everyone else’s rosters are set

  13. beardofzetterberg

Booo on Kasper not making it. He did everything to show that he deserved a spot and Y couldn’t navigate his own log jam to give him the spot that he earned. I have faith that it won’t take long for him to be on the Wings, but I’m disappointed.

  14. Spreadsheet4That_V88

I don’t think it’s surprising, but I imagine we’ll see some call-ups shortly into the season.

Unpopular opinion, but the fact that there’s a discussion for how many of our guys are on the bubble of the roster still means there is work to be done to be a playoff contender. Love or Hate Yzerman, he doesn’t rush the decision

  15. AffectionateMrPink

I’m guessing paper move. Expect Kasper up for game 1

  16. detwings

Will there be a presser? Steve has to answer for his crimes

  17. ChucklesLeClown

Kasper will probably be back up after Holl clears waivers

  18. AWokenBeetle

So disappointing, fresh talented young skater who could provide enthusiasm, skill, and energy. Instead here’s another old retread past his prime and his only quality is getting his ass kicked in the one thing you get him for, but he’s from Michigan so it’s okay.

    Really annoying

  19. Samplesize313

Kinda shocked MBN didn’t get the GR nod. Really wanted him and Danielson to be together for the season. But ASP and him could develop a great bond on the PP over in the SHL so I don’t hate it

  20. Shotokanguy

I’m holding out hope that moving Kasper down is just administrative/logistical stuff that we wouldn’t understand and he’s back on the roster before opening night

  21. SevenStringGod

I’m not super upset about Kasper; I think him getting an extended look and maybe even stealing a roster spot later this year is inevitable.

With that being said, this is all the proof anyone needs to say that we are not icing the best possible roster, and young players can’t always force their way on to the team. Maybe there’s moves to be made, or maybe he just got blocked by too many bad contracts that can’t be moved or buried, but it is 100% fair to say Kasper should be on the opening roster by merit of preseason play alone.

  22. Glad to see us sending the right message to the kids: “no matter how good you are, eat shit”

  23. Where is Blashill’s wife???

Mrs. Lalonde is clearly not paying attention.

  24. Snardvark-5

Bummer. A wings regression this year seems likely in my opinion. Defying the odds as we did last year shouts for a regression to the mean. Unfortunately, Cam Talbot and Jack Campbell are not what we needed and we did nothing to bolster our defense- our greatest off-season need.

Nate Danielson is great. Saw him play for the Portland Winterhawks last year. Awesome hockey IQ. He just knew where to be on the ice with seemingly less effort. Not that he’s nhl ready, but it’ll be awesome when we give him a chance on his 30th birthday.

  25. smilingasIsay

I so want Soderblom to be good, but I just don’t think he’s gonna make it anymore.

  26. jfstompers

Tell me again how if you earn a spot you’ll be on the team.

  27. SUGKswim

I have been watching ASP and hes arguably their best defenseman so far, he’s very crafty and tough to get off the puck

  28. onbiver9871

Not gonna lie, the goalie situation… annoys me slightly. I actually wonder if Stevie tried to shop Husso and got nowhere, so no mention of it was ever made in the press.

That said, I just don’t see this team carrying 3 all year, but I also don’t see what would precipitate the change. If one guy gets cold, he’s not gonna be tradable. If one guy gets injured, unless it’s for a very significant part of the season, it might validate the choice in the immediate term, but you’ll just pop back to having the same problem when said guy heals.

I don’t really see the plan here; the team isn’t flush with roster spots, and using one on a third big-club goalie is….. not how I would manage the NHL roster.

I guess we’ll see if anything changes before Monday/ before Thursday.

  29. PineapplePhil

I think we see Kasper sooner than later, not ready to lose my cool yet.

  30. Im a fan of signing Watson for added grit, but no Kasper? Im not a huge fan of that but we’ll see.

  31. Matt-JHD

Can someone explain why we are in such a need for an Austin Watson type player over getting our rookies in?

I get that Kasper will get his time this year, but clearly Yzerman doesn’t trust the rookies enough yet. I’m all for letting them develop together in GR, but I can’t see how Watson improves the overall skill of this team minus adding to our goon stats.

  32. payrollkrabs

Any chance for danielson on Winterhawks or is he set in GR?

  33. nickpegg

kasper has the two way contract right? so he can jump up and down for free – i get the move.

  34. glamscum

This is gonna make Söderblom want to be traded.

  35. The_ManWithNoName

Kasper deserved to make it. Ed deserved to make it last year. I bet if he played the whole year with us we finish 1 point better.

  36. itsMurphDogg

I’m bummed about Kasper but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him a few times during the season

WHEN you transition to the NHL is probably the most important move of a pro players career. I’d imagine this is a confidence thing. Those guys will take the knowledge that they can hang in preseason of the best league in the world, and take that confidence into a more palatable league and do well for another year and solidify that confidence. Gotta remember how young these dudes are

  37. Unlikely-Waltz-550

This does suck. We have so many of the same type of players and need some new talent. Do we need a Motte and a fisher? But one thing you know is one of the centres will be out hurt and Kasper will be up.
