Nate forgot the asterisk *in the regular season*
MacKinnin is 100% right. Mitch is the best overall winger in hockey right now. Marchand was. But after a slew of injuries he's not anymore. Marners ability to be excellent defensively. Play in any situation. To score near 100 points every season. To make players around him better. You can't over sell that. He's never going to be in the MVP conversation but he's going to be an MVP type player on any team he plays for. He does everything at either a high or elite level.
Then they should be more than happy to sign him for more than 11M, that is, more than what Nathan MacKinnon himself make on an 8-year contract!
* One of the best….. player friendly contracts (Dubas Special)
Nathan MacKinnon can have him. Way over paid for 6 years for what he does. Best at what? Not a goal scorer. Domi can get his points if he played with top 3. Marner Plays on the periphery. come on guys!
Let's go Blues!!
in the regular season.
So let's say Marner has a record year, beats Gilmour's scoring record. Do you trade or keep him?
Like the rest of the leafs he plays for 82 games only
If hes one of the best then they should pay him Leon Draisaitl money?
14M/year lol
That Mac comment really was a drive by 😂 and they had the audacity to put it as the title 😂
Good thing you know more than a superstar Steve
When you say "one of the best players," are we talking top five? If so, no, because McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar, Matthews, and Kucherov would fill that list out.
I would also say that he's not better than Barkov, Pastrnak, Panarin, and Draisaitl. Do I think it's an interesting discussion between him and a lot of other players after that? Definitely.
I think he's an outstanding two-way forward. He thinks hockey at a very high level. He plays well in all three zones. He kills penalties. He's an agile skater who gets to good areas of the offensive zone. He's an excellent passer. His shot has improved since he entered the league. Any team would want him.
If any Oilers players are angry that Broberg and Holloway signed those offer sheets, it is absolutely ludicrous. OF COURSE THEY SIGNED THE OFFER SHEETS! They'd be fools not to considering how much more they are being payed now. Loyalty is one thing, but to potentially not set yourself up for life would be pure stupidity.
Since the start of the 2019-2020 season, Marner has averaged 1.24 points per game(102 per season pace) putting him at 8th in that stat. Top 10 ppg = one of the best players in the game. In open market free agency next year, no one should be surprised if many teams offer him well north of 12 million per year for 7 years. Players like him are scarce, and rarely become available on the market at that.
It's become hard to diagnose exactly what the problem is in Toronto – is it the players? The fans? Management? Alignment of the stars? Who knows. But regardless of the issues, I will never take anyone who says Marner is a bad player seriously. Is he worth his contract, especially in the playoffs? Probably not. But he's a stellar talent in his own right, at the very least for the first 82 games.
Kucherov’s “fake heart/hart” (if you’re referencing the “all-star” bullshiz) has his name on the STANLEY CUP twice.
It’s not that he’s a bad player or that we don’t want him to succeed, It’s that they (Matthews, Nylander, Marner) have hand cuffed the team where one of them has to go because we can afford them.
One of the best at not scoring in playoffs
Matthews gets the bucks does 0 in playoffs marner does the same everyonr complains
He is a CHUMP come playoff time
Lmao. Is mitch crying this much jn the dressing room? 😂😂😂
Anyway, Nathan can have marner and his 11 million dollar salary……just dont cry when you get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs while marner plays his toughest hockey in the post game interviews. This nhl boys club is hilarious. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It mystifies me that YOU can't see the value of Marner past your preconceived prejudices. Everything you despise about Marner's Play in the Play-offs can be placed at the feet of all the other super stars equally. and yet you hang the the Blame solely on one player.
This makes you uncreditable as an litigable analyst. new low.
These morons still don't get lol
Where's Matthew's flak? Instead, he got rewarded with the C
If you guys can't see the favoritism towards others(Matthews) and unwarranted hate towards Marner when it's directed nowhere else, then you need a new job.
Not once has anyone got behind Marner, going back to Babcock until now. Your hometown superstar. How about try and get behind the guy for the first time in 8 years? Haters
How can someone want to trade Marner 3 months ago and then say he's going to put up 130 points now? lol. You want to trade 130 point player? Lol, thank God these morons aren't in the war room.
The Avalanche can have him.
