The New Jersey Devils and General Manager Tom Fitzgerald had quite the busy offseason revamping their roster after a disappointing 2023-24 Season.
Fitzy started with bringing in a new Head Coach, Sheldon Keefe. He then went on a rampage and acquired some new players for his new vision; Jacob Markstrom, Johnathan Kovacevic, Paul Cotter, Brenden Dillon and Stefan Noesen. (Brett Pesce as well, but he has not played yet)
The NJ Devils went to Prague, Czechia for the Global Series and went 2-0 against the Buffalo Sabres.

Man, I watched that 2012 season obsessively. I was in grad school, no kids, and the feeling was incredible. I was living in Buffalo at the time and I swear none of my friends believed me when I started talking mid season about a possible cup run. They cemented my favorite style of play: hard work never stop pushing. Their forecheck was unbelievable. Clarkson is still one of my all time favorite devils, just from that season alone. Damn I hope we can put something together like that again!

This roster is what Devils fans have been waiting years for. Depth everywhere you look. You think back to what the Devils D looked like a few years back and compare to today, it’s like night and day. Hughes, Nemec, Hamilton, Pesce, Dillon, Kovacevic, and now Casey. Unreal. Devils top 6 are going to cause nightmares for teams this season and the depth lines are heavier, edgier and more violent. I honestly think one of the best things about the depth is it takes the pressure off of Jack to try and do too much. He can still play his style but know there are many others out there who can push this team to win and it doesn’t always have to be done by some flashy play with one too many moves. Keefe is going be a great fit for this group. We are very early into the season but am loving what I’ve seen so far. LGD!!

all the new pieces have already shown so much, kovacevic looks solid nd can get that shot off at the point, dillon is already playing shut down defense nd making crazy hits, cotters with the 2 goals nd looks like a good pair for jack, noesen coming back was a good move too hes playing physical in the offensive zone nd gettin good chances infront of the net, just our depth is great rn cause even with luke and pesce out shamus casey comes in nd plays amazing, markstrom been locked in too. im ready for thursday, we can beat the leafs if we play simple hockey like weve been, nd this defense first mindset nd play is gonna do us good going further!! lets go devils!!

Fitz killed it this offseason and I’d rather cotter than Holtz straight up.
Last year was a dead year and no GM could’ve done anything about it. We need to right off last year as a loss and move forward with positivity! LGD

Huge start to the season. I remain cautiously optimistic but obviously it doesn’t get much better than this.
I admittedly HATED the Holtz and Schmid for Cotter trade, but it looks like Fitz may have known what he was doing after all. Don’t expect Cotter to continue at this pace but he fit in seamlessly and played exceptionally well. Maybe Holtz just doesn’t have the intangibles that Cotter seems to bring. All the talent in the world isn’t going to help you if you don’t have heart, drive, and killer instinct.

If I am nit-picking about our 4 point effort,, New Jersey does need to get the turn overs under control. Otherwise, a very solid effort to start the season…their energy matched the kids at home and that signals a complete change in culture. LGD!
Knowing what a team needs is one thing. Being able to pull off the moves to GET what the team needs WITHOUT compromising what you already have is another. Fitz did a spectacular job this off season. Crazy to think that some dopes wanted him fired last year!! SMH.
Dillon is absolutely awesome. Do you think they should do a line brawl with the rags come December? That would be awesome…Also, made my niece a hockey stick for her birthday last September. Painted a 5 on it for her 5th birthday…maybe after bringing her to a game this year, and seeing Dillon play, she might want to trade her Hughes jersey in for a Dillon jersey…and ask him to sign her stick. lol
