He’s going to get what he wants and he should. Just like Hank did, just like Price.

It is the largest by dollar amount for sure, but it’s less of a percentage of the cap than either Price or Bobrovsky got.

As has been said, the best player on the team wants to be paid the best player on the team. It’s not an unreasonable ask.

It’s just tough because the cap is a miserable, cranky, unforgiving bitch. Like my almost grandmother in law was.

People need to realise that for the first time in a decade the cap is guaranteed to rise a lot

Draisaitl signed a record breaking deal, others including Igor will also get huge paydays.

No chance would I go north of 11m. There’s still a roster that needs to be built.

Here’s where I get confused- how does Igor believe he can win a cup with a 12 million dollar salary?

Does Igor deserve an absolutely enormous bag based on what he’s done? History says absolutely yes; goalies that win Vezinas and hard carry their team in the playoffs get PAID.

Should we pay him that much if our goal is to win a Stanley Cup? History says absolutely no; the only goalies to win a Stanley Cup while counting for more than 9.1% of the cap have been Vasilevskiy (11.5%) and Bobrovsky (12%), and their teams have the roster construction advantage of no state income tax.

If the lofty projections are accurate and the salary cap skyrockets to $100m by 27-28, we still shouldn’t pay more than 10.5-11 if we want to win. If Shesty is insisting on 11.5+, unfortunately the best thing for this team long term would be to trade him for big assets

Idc how good he is I hate going more than 5 years with a goalie

  8. PeteyG89

This would all have been so much easier if 8 million came off the books.

Greg on Blueshirts breakaway wondering how to tie the Igor contract into Mets baseball talk

  10. Zero-jiggler

Pay him or rebuild and waste Fox and Lafs primes. The way this team is built, there is pretty much no alternative.

Maybe he wants the smallest contract in NHL history?
