[Mercogliano] Victor Mancini said “you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face” when NYR GM Chris Drury told him he made the team. His parents quickly got tickets and are making the 4-5 hour drive from Michigan to Pittsburgh.

Idk why, I have a really really good feeling about this kid.

If Mancini can step up as a third pair D then we have a nice cheap option to replace Trouba as the 3RD, which will be huge with the new contracts for Shesty, Laf, and Miller, plus the rest of the lineup we need to fill out.

He looked VERY good in preseason. Hopefully his performance transcends to the regular season (and playoffs!) LGR!!!

What a story for this kid. Played for Little Ceasers in juniors in Sweden. Then went to hockey powerhouse U. of Nebraska. Not drafted the first year he was eligible. Not drafted the second year he was eligible. Then drafted in the 5th round. Played a whopping total of 9 pro games. And now plays opening night for the Rangers

We need a couple of surprises like Mancini in order to win the Cup.

A lot of teams got better, so with cap limitations being a thing, it’s important to find cheap, unexpected roster help from within (like Cuylle last year.)

Just gimme the sign so I can do the funny shit with my fingers like I was doing when Tommy devito was moonlighting as our qb.

I liked a LOT of what I seen of him in preseason. Excited to see what he brings to the table when the games count!

  8. Is that post from 12 hours ago his family asking for advice?

We should temper our expectations with him. I’m absolutely STOKED that he made the team, but he’s no world-breaker. He should have a similar breakout as Schneider by just playing a simple responsible game.

While he is likely to play over Chad, he’ll likely be sent down once Lindgren‘s back. And that’s a-okay. Let him log 25 minutes a game in Hartford until the next injury scare.

If we move on from Trouba in a year, then we’re sitting pretty on the right side!

  10. Best news of the day, so psyched for the kid!
