Why can’t the journos leave it alone?

In the middle of a list of reasons to watch the Ducks this year, the writer feels like talking about a Zegras trade like it’s a forgone conclusion.

Gibson has been on his way out of Anaheim for closer to a decade too.

This is pretty typical whenever a national writer tries to pretend as someone who knows the details of what’s happening on individual teams that aren’t in the public eye. They invariably end up saying things that fans of the team know to be untrue and roll their eyes at.

I still don’t understand the users here that seem to insist on taking any discussion about Zegras trade rumours as a personal insult

I don’t understand the issue. It has been a rumour and likely is a reason for people to tune in to watch. It would have been stranger not to mention it.

  5. They are engagement farming. It is like a tiktoker who intentionally uses the wrong your/their/too. They don’t care if your comment is negative. All of the free clicks after you diffused their troll comment to the community are what keep the lights on. Think of these comments as the comps at a casino or the lure on an angler fish. “Take a look over here. Install our cookies. Most journalists don’t pay attention to the ducks so they hear one or two pieces of information (doesn’t matter if it’s true or not) and they just will copy paste it for the season. This season it’s “cutter is supposed to be good” and “zegras is getting traded” so every article that comes out will mention how good (or bad) cutter is doing and then mention that zegras is getting traded.

We only trade Zegras if we get an overpayment offer we can’t refuse (unlikely), or if he finishes this season at like less than .35 points per game average (also unlikely) and some other team thinks they can get him out of a slump with a change of scenery.

As much as a skeptic of Zegras as I am, I really don’t think he’s the top line star we all hoped he would be and more of a 2nd or 3rd line scorer that will outmatch the depth of other teams. He’s probably going to be the guy that sneaks out against the other team’s 3rd line on a quick line change and make them look like they’re going in slow motion. I’m sure he’s good for at least .6 points per game average per season from now on if he stays healthy.

For perspective Getzlaf finished his entire career at .88. We need more players at that caliber if we ever want to win another cup. We really as fans need to understand how spoiled we were with Kariya, Selanne, Niedermayer, Getzlaf and Perry almost seamlessly back to back. All hall of fame talent that made us a top competitor for a very long time. Every player we draft in the first round isn’t going to be a hall of famer like that. End rant, shower me with downvotes

Because it gets you to click and spread it, exactly as you did.
