The NCAA ban being lifted interests me. What with NIL and essentially college free agency in sports now I don't see it not being lifted. It could potentially upgrade hockey in NCAA.
The 4 year deal like Ullmark's is what I think more players & teams should be looking for. On the player's side, look at Jack Hughes signed in for long term, if he avoids injury he's going to see players not nearly as good as he is making $10+M while he's stuck around $8M. From the team's side, maybe Boston would have been more comfortable giving Swayman what he wanted if they were only on the hook for 4 years. That's enough time for the player to show what he's really worth and he's still young enough at the end to merit another big deal.
Go Sens Go
If the NCAA ends the ban and lets CHL players play, which is the right thing to do to give people more options, then the CHF will have a massive influx of players which will strengthen the competition and make Collegiate Leagues even better
As a Sens fan this is an amazing day!!
As a Florida fan I'm very happy with the Verhaeghe extension. He's definitely someone I love to keep in the team and that cap hit might look more than reasonable in a few years.
The NCAA/CHL thing is interesting to me. I live in the US and seen some really good european prospects that might have went to the CHL in the past play USHL in order to go to college. I imagine a lot of Canadian players would like the chance to leave for NCAA at 18 without having to play in minor leagues or move to the states. This sounds good for the players and good for fans of NCAA hockey but is there any sort of upside for the CHL? They seem to come out as big losers if this goes through.
Shannon I feel the need to remind you that verhaeghe wasn’t a “misfit” on Tampa and I don’t think Florida should be praised for the pickup, the bolts had no choice but to move on due to already having a godly team and cap
What does it take for an acha hockey team to join the ncaa? I know it’s years away if not ever but just curious of what it would take to see a couple of Utahs college teams to make it to the ncaa. Like university of Utah and Weber state
I saw something else about the ncaa allowing players to be paid ?? Don't follow the college leagues as much
Daccord’s contract makes sense for us as this likely signals Gru will get bought out end of season and Joey is our best alternative…
Big day for Ottawa. So important to have kept Ullmark
Ullmark has earned it.
Panthers showed No hangover in Fl we’re in it for the Cup.
I'm so glad the Kraken extended Daccord!
I feel like Huberdeau is the inverse of Florida finding misfits and its instead Florida finding someone and making them work while they would've been a misfit in another team.
I am just so glad Ullmark isnt going to be a one and done
Ottawa will be competetive now, and has 4 million at the deadline to bring in players
Yaaayyy Verhaeghe 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow. So if your a player looking for more money and term than your actually worth, go to Seattle! Seems to be their theme since free agency
Ottawa is such a brand new franchise. This team is a completely different colour and it all began with Staios taking the reins. Under Andlaur and Staios this organization feels so optimistic
Ullmark is not worth $8.25 million.
Paying your backup goalie 5.9M for 3 more seasons is not a great look for Seattle. Can’t say much though as a sharks fan haha
That’s rich for Ullmark, 31 year old goaltender at 8.25?
Glad my Caps have Charlie Lindgren @ $1.1 million and Logan Thompson $767k! Their next annual's will probably be in the $3 – 4 million range.
I finally feel comfortable with Ottawa goaltending for the future
OMG he said it! Finally, vindication….
Yes Joey Daccord did outplay Grubauer last season and should have started last night.
Let's go Kraken!
Won't lie I don't know if the pregame not on the same day and being on the first video each day has the same typical hockey guy video feel. But it's only been two days hopefully the adjustment gets easier! Lol keep up the good work sir!
Also Rutger will start for the pens tonight!!
Ottawa couldn't afford to wait until summer and potentially lose Ullmark, after finally getting the goaltending they've been missing for years.
did Matt Murray make the team?
Ottawa vs Boston in first round of playoffs. UIlmark vs Swayman. Please make it so!
Swayman and Ullmark getting the same cap hit is cute as heck.
VANCOUVER Canucks fan
I still don’t trust Ottawa to do anything right until I see it pay off
Just because I don't wanna guess the entire week at the same time I'm putting today's predictions here.
Leafs, Pens, Oilers, Canucks, Knights
Season Record:
4-1-0
insane that seattle pays their goaltenders 10.9 mil, but if i am honest i never liked Grubauers contract he is overrated, because he had only good stats in washington because he was backup goalie and he had insane team front of him in colorado😁
Woll is already injured , Cut his leg shaving gonna miss some time
Hopefully resigning verhaeghe doesn’t mean Bennett is gone
Daccord is definitely the better goalie.
Kraken has 11 million committed in the next 3 years for 2 average goalies.
I don't know what they are thinking.
CHL is for Canadians
NCAA is for Americans.
How does another country think they have the right to force them to take on non citizens?
Thats pretty ignorant to assume thats a birth right.
Ncaa rule change is cool
They mentioned on the tv broadcast that keeping Verhaeghe will be one of the tough financial decisions they would have to make, looks like they made decision pretty quick on that.
I'm enjoying the Rocky hockey pennant in the background
