I don’t have an Athletic subscription so I can’t read their further analysis, but it’s interesting that this model affirms the obvious: The Flyers need to rebuild, have barely even begun, have a long way to go, and are already behind their rebuilding peers

  2. MainLineCB

Danny B and Keith Jones should definitely take this model into consideration when making decisions /s

  3. SadYotesFan

I think we are realistically in the triangle of Columbus Detroit and Montreal

Because I can’t say we are moving towards a rebuild if none of our actions are reflective of that. However, the Metro is still very good so I can’t exactly put us at contenders either

I think it’s very possible we finish bottom 10, but then have a really good year next year because our young core developed (possibly wildcard)

  4. MajinSkull

The sharks were worst team last year and we barely missed the playoffs but they are close to the top right than we are? Same with chicago and the ducks?

  5. Diamondback424

Lmfao the devils didn’t even make the playoffs last year, how is their window open?

  6. Annual-Ebb-7196

No matter how much data they try and use to make things like this look scientific it’s all still judgment calls.

  7. ZeroOptionLightning

    So you’re telling me there’s a chance

  8. schism_records_1

I’m guessing we have been in this quadrant since like 2012?

  9. Flyers have one of the youngest teams in the NHL and almost made the playoffs last year. Don’t agree with this chart at all.

  10. Cute-Contract-6762

This doesn’t make any sense. We have so many top 2 round picks next years it’s absurd, with some decent prospects who look promising. I feel like we are firmly in the top left

  11. jabtrain

The Winnipeg one seems out of whack. I think they are in their window now and they have a rich pipeline still coming.

  12. Streetkillz13

I’d say the quadrant is correct, but we’re too low. If you want to put Chicago, Anaheim, Columbus and SJ ahead of us in the rebuild that’s fine, but with 6 picks in the top 64 this season, we should basically passing into the rebuilding category by the beginning of next season.

Right now the 4 teams I mentioned are in the developing part of rebuilding, whereas we are in the acquiring phase. I don’t think it’s crazy to think we end up bottom 10 this season, and find our #1C or #1D by the draft.

  13. ThadTheImpalzord

Lots of these picks are real headscratchers, Washington got a lot better this offseason. The Pens are desperate for a rebuild but they can’t because they’ve been devoid of draft picks for years, they should be closer to the bottom left. Bruins should be deeper into the window closing curve.

Take these type of “analytics” with a grain of salt.

  14. RadkoGouda

I wouldnt put us that far down but yeah as ive been saying we are *very* far away and have one of worst center and defense situations in league …

  15. Longjumping_Bet9607

Edmonton is the oldest team in the league and they will be in cap hell how is their Window not closing? They have like 2 years to win

  16. GrundleThief

devils have a ton of young talent but they just finished 7th in the metro, I don’t see them at the same level as the avs, stars, or leafs yet. They should be about a 5 in the present rating.

  17. ArtyTheBarber

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say none of those 5 teams in the “Window Open” section are winning the cup this year. These are all just guesses that they put on a graph to make it seem smarter and to make the fans of the teams in the top right have something to post and the bottom left to get salty about (couldn’t be me /s)

  18. PancakeLord2k3

interesting to see this as a flyers/jets fan.

i know this is the flyers sub but the jets aren’t anywhere close to a rebuild. with brad lambert, nikita chibrikov, elias salomonson, and potentially simon lundmark coming up in the future they’re not in bad shape. lambert projects as a high 2nd to mid 1st liner, chibrikov will top out as a solid second liner. salomonson projects to be middle pair D man and lundmark will be a rock solid 3rd pairing guy.

we’re just missing another top 4d and maybe a 2c but we’re nowhere near rebuilding.

sorry once again, i just wanted to write some thoughts down while i had the graphic in front of me
