As loved and adored as he was and is, it would take one bad game or even one bad period for fans and media to **jump** on him like no other player before

Elias Pettersson has been getting way too much hate these couple of months, but I’m sure there’s someone more over hated.

Ryan Kesler. He got all kinds of hate for requesting a trade out, but the guy was so competitive and he saw what was happening with the team and knew he wouldn’t get another shot at a Cup with the team on the decline. The team gave him a NTC and he used it to force his way out to a contending team of his own choice. Everyone hates him for lowering his trade value by being so set on only going to Anaheim, but they should blame the guy who gave him the contract, not Kesler, who took less salary so he could have that NTC.

I could have sworn during every off-season during the Luongo/Sedin era a decent chunk of the Canucks fandom would be lamenting that we would have gone further in the playoffs “if only Luongo would played better”. Heck I’m sure there’s people out there who’d blame Luongo for giving up a softie against Scott Niedermayer in OT to end our 07 run even though he was the only Canucks who bothered to show up to every game in the playoffs during that run.

Tyler Myers.
Only until last year people were shitting all over that guy. Meanwhile he is a very good hockey player that was playing on a bad team and was the taking a lot of heat for it.

It’s got to be Dan Cloutier. That era of team had it’s fair share of playoff letdowns, but the blame seemed to ALWAYS come back on Clouts.

Surprised no one’s said this yet, but the most recently relevant answer is Bo Horvat.
Overall, Kesler or Luongo

Doesn’t specify player.
Given fans chanted for them to be fired and who their replacement ended up being, I’m going to go with Mike Gillis.

Luongo. Guy was always our best goalie. Had many games where he was the best player in ice and Dan’s hated him. I hated those fans. Now he’s in the HoF and ended his career as our best goaltender
