The Leafs liked to play on the periphery. Not go after the greasy goal. Berube is trying to correct that mindset.
It's only a very small sample size, but the compete level on average, seema to be much higher than last year or any year since the dougie or mats eras.
Yes they are going to the net much more frequently.
Ullmark's "economical" tending style sounds similar to Oettinger which is a good sign.
Not sure what they are doing on the PP. 1. You pass around quickly and take the shot. They clearly are confused by Savards tactics.
The Leafs now play a boring brand of hockey. Insomniacs at the games will be happy.

After two games, all you can say is the Leaf goaltending has been hot, and the scoring cold. Two games isn't long enough to say either is significant yet. If they can keep the defensive play up there in the clouds (GAA of 1.5), that would be hugely significant. Offensively, the reverse is true – the so-called 'big 4' have only out the puck in the net once. That needs to change ASAP. Leafs usually score a lot of goals and give up a lot of goals. So far this year they're not scoring much, but letting even less in the net. But, really, two games is just the beginning.
The most significant thing in terms of the league I've seen so far this year is yet another increase in the hype before the season's opening game. It's getting a bit much!

How many times have we heard this? :We could and should have won?. Try , like every playoff. They are very content to constantly take shots from the outside hitting posts and the goalie himself. It is absolutely insane. Watch what Florida and Boston do under the same circumstance. They will crash the net. Bring in two guys to screen the goalie. Swarm the net and shoot from the point for the tip or screen. Why haven't our guys learned this yet. The old definition of insanity. And will usually be successful.
Yeah I noticed Berube's changes in his first ever game, when their "not being shutout" record (which was a month away from being the all-time record, beating a Gretzky roster) was ended by a bottom-feeding team with the league's youngest defense and a middle-of-the-pack goalie.
They gotta make the playoffs to use in the playoffs
