Kirkland gets called up

https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/flames-recall-justin-kirkland

Looks like they're bringing up Kirkland to fill in for Rooney.

He had a good camp but he's 28 years old. I would have thought let's get Morton some reps in there as the young guy that we can potentially build with.

I guess it's just too early in the season to start rolling young guys through? Kirkland does have multiple pro seasons under his belt in the A.

Just hope they remember the guiding principle that Conny told us on day 1… young guys are gonna get to play.

He’s just as good as the name brand players.

He’s a no name, but I heard he was the president’s choice. If he plays well he’ll recieve our compliments.

Should fill the roll well. Not a flashy player but don’t think he’ll hurt us on the 4th line either

1.50 hot dog and a drink and now 4th line centre….talk about value

I’m guessing the Costco over morton call up is two fold:

with them saying rooney is only day to day maybe they called up Costco because they anticipate rooney playing on Sunday, and they’d rather give a single day to a well seasoned AHL vet who already knows the deal with the wranglers and isn’t missing much there

And on the other side for morton, this is an extremely important year for the wranglers so I imagine at least to kick the season off they really want to get the main group of younger guys (pelts, morton, stromgren, brz, gru, solo, lipper, etc.) Working together on chemistry and what-not early in the season and start building on some consistency.

I’m pretty damn sure morton will see NHL games this year

I think it’s fine to have Kirkland fill Rooney’s 4C spot,, since he’s day-to-day. I think if it was longer term then I think giving Morton a look would make more sense.
