  1. Also he lives in the most expensive city in the country and he is probably taxed at a extremely high rate since he is a non citizen.

  2. Having been a Sabres Fan since the 70's cup run… we've had some very good goalies… Dejardins, Edwards/Sauve won the Vezina, Barrasso, Puppa, Miller… all those names saw all-star game action I'm sure.. then you add in Hasek, who makes every one of those others look like they played a different game. Goalie is a very important position.. But Goalies cn be their own worst enemy. How many times was Bobrovsky's constract called into quesiton because he was so-so.. I've seen him carry his team… which is why he has it.. but I"ve also seen him sink his team. He was so up and down it wasn't funny. yeah, he got the prize this year.. but that was more about the team around him and his play. I can see why teams don't want to drop the big numbers.. Price earned it… and now is collecting for nothing. That sucks.

  3. Shesty could get 12 or 13M because he's elite, Vezina caliber goaltender. Look at the other newest contracts in the NHL. These contracts are signed with the idea that the salary cap will increases, so in the upcoming seasons they will take up a much smaller percentage of the overall cap. And worthy to note that it's his last big contract, of course he wants more.

  4. Except, as ive replied w some of the comments – THAT a goaltender to hockey ISNT NEARLY as important to a pitcher in baseball, NOR a QB in football… A goalie in hockey is AS IMORTANT as a Running Back In football, and a Batcatcher in baseball? U guys need to quit comparing apples to oranges?

  5. $11m now, imagine if he has a Vezina year and gets to/wins the finals, mans is gonna get a bag

  6. Russian hockey players are very completive in nature..and not just on the ice, money wise as well. I think Shes wants to bring home a PROFIT more than the $10m per Bob is making in tax free Florida. To accomplish that in tax hell NY I think it would take approx $13m per. IMO, if he turns down anything more than $11m he wants out of dirty NYC and be closer down south near Bob and Vasy and live in a cheaper/cleaner environment with better weather and much lower taxes🤷‍♂

  7. How many times have backups and even third string goaltenders end up being heroes in regular season and playoffs when the A1 goes down with injury? It happens all the time. Goalies are not as valuable as most think. A solid goaltender with elite level skaters in front of him can look like a Vezina winner. I love Brodeur and his stats are off the charts but those numbers look so impressive because of the defensive juggernaut that played in front of him for most of his career.

  8. Shesterkin is a fool to turn down that contract. Simple as that. Don’t talk to me about term or length, it’s a ton of money for a goalie, he should just take it. He’ll never get a better overall, or more secure offer for his long term future inside of and outside of hockey.

  9. Vasy only won one of those cups on that $9.5 mil contract and the year he did is when Kuch spent the entire season on LTIR then after they had to blow up their entire 3rd line and other parts of the forward group

Bob only did it because Zito hit on 5 reclamation projects making $20 mil combined in Forsling, Reinhart, Rodrigues, Bennett, and Verhagee all playing at a premium compared to their cap hits, Igor would take up more than half of that alone making $12 mil. Also we can't play revisionist history and ignore that he was almost chased out of not just the net but also Florida. They didn't win bc of him they won bc they built a deep core and made a culture changing trade Bob was brutal in the finals at times and almost cost them from winning.

They still have to extend Laf and Miller after this season and then Schneider next offseason they will have to ice a few ELC contract guys each year and with the "last dance" reference that hints to them retooling why burn 3 prime years of Igor on a retool especially if it's a 5 year deal?

Cups are won with elite centers and defenseman. You can win with an elite goalie but not because of one and making him the highest paid player on the team is giving him the keys to it being his team. If they can't win with him making $5.6 they won't win with him making $12+ mil. If they win this year it's a different convo but they haven't proved they can win bc of an elite goalie and the Hank era was a prime example of it they would be putting a bandaid on a bullet sized wound. I love Igor but a certain price point is way too much.

  10. Hamstring their salary cap ?? wait a min any Florida based team player salary is skewed by Florida tax rates . Give any Canadian team another $8 million and what would they do ? Would Edmonton have hoisted the cup with another roughly 8 million to spend last season Look at the past 5 or so Stanely cup champs , all from no state or very low state tax cities .

  11. Igor is betting on himself. How about a cup win and another Vezina on your resume when the cap is like, 115 mill

  12. Lmao you Toronto fans are stupid as hell. After all the bad contracts you guys have given out with zero to show for it, and now you think a goalie whos also won nothing is worth over 11mil a year??? Never change. Youre Part of the reason your team fails every year

  13. He might want to play the field a little bit in free agency. Some players as great as him don't get that opportunity often. After some courting from teams, Igor can still resign with the Rangers.

  14. Best podcast in the hockey world, easily. Knowledgeable, entertaining and real. Keep it up fellas! (I hate the leafs) but still love the pod

  15. The cap is going up. Players should seek as much money as possible. That would bring teams close to the cap and owners would push for increases to the cap. It seems to be the only way. Igor will get closer to 12 a year which I am fine with. Goalies don’t get hit so they don’t face that same threat as skaters do. Igor will get his bag.

  16. I just can't get to paying a goalie 11 or 12 million a year. On 30 to 35 games a year you have 11 million on the bench.

  17. Rangers can pay Igor. But they are paying Fox and Mika a lot already. Trocheck is on a fantastic deal for a long term. They have Panarin on the books and I don’t see them moving on from him. K’Andre and Lafreniere will get big deals this summer as well. I don’t see the team changing that much aside from Lindgren and Trouba being moved on from.
