Bryan Rust returned to the lineup and Joel Blomqvist took the net for the second-straight game as the Penguins travelled to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs. Kris Letang got the scoring started, scoring a blast of a power-play goal midway through the opening period. The Leafs scored twice in the 2nd period to take the lead, and Marner extended their lead in the 3rd period. Rickard Rakell wired a wrist shot into the back of the net in the 3rd period to cut Toronto’s lead to 3-2. Evgeni Malkin assisted on Rakell’s tally, giving him his 1,300th career point. Geno is the third active player to have reached that milestone. Toronto added an empty-net tally with less than a minute remaining in regulation to secure the win.
