  1. Just read that the Devils outhit Utah 28-8 and that Cotter led the team with 8. This is going to be another fun year to watch.

I liked Keefe going with these situational line combos when it made sense to. Like in the final seconds of the first period stacking the first line with Nico and Jack and then putting Casey and Nemec out there to try and make something happen with maximum offense.

Or after penalty kills he’s been consistently throwing Cotter out with Jack and Timo since Bratt pulls PK duty now and then it gives that second line a whole different element where it’s two bulldozers in Meier and Cotter while Jack can be given space to set them up.

And then on the first powerplay unit swapping Meier for Noesen to give them a strong netfront presence that draws a Utah defender and helps open up some of those passing lanes while also giving them a great chance at rebounds in a defensive game where it felt like those premium scoring chances were gonna be hard to come by, so they worked at getting some greasy goals which paid off.

It’s nice seeing moves made in-game that have some real intent and analysis behind them and not just pulling bingo balls to make random line combos.
