Shit take, because every other team has won a cup without Igor Shesterkin.
ImpossibleBandicoot
There’s really no realistic alternative.
Independent_Web_6029
They should pay him. Simple, he’s the best player on the team.
Necdurgogan75
To anyone ego doesn’t want to resign him, who are you making the next starting goalie?
GrizzlyDangles93
It’s going to be 11.66
SmokyMetal060
For 12M, I hope they can at least settle on no NMC.
Krakengreyjoy
We didn’t win wit the best goalie in the world when we had Hank.
Play the year out, see what happens. If a core can’t be built, it’s not worth killing the cap on Igor, as painful as that sounds.
NickPatches
You might not win without him but at that much cap percentage it might not be possible to win with him either. Double edged sword.
Shoddy_Reserve788
Would love to ban any Biz content from the sub. He’s truly the worst of the hockey world
Krispyford
If he’s getting $12 million, I wouldn’t go higher than 6 years. Preferably 4, honestly.
Shiny_Mew76
Do 4×12 and I’ll be happy.

What is the photo?
Anyway, I would like to see the Rangers be like cup-winning teams & concentrate on excellent 5-on-5 play rather than iffy structure bailed out by magic goaltending. This latter style of hockey gets tiresome to watch.
I don’t believe this team is winning a cup. Our skilled players can do cool stuff against average teams, but the best teams can keep us under control. The skills that excellent 5-on-5 teams have – maintaining possession, moving the puck deftly under pressure, winning puck battles, etc – we don’t have enough of.
Thisusernameisnoone
I’m not sure what to do here. The team is built around elite goal tending. If we no longer have that, what do we do? It’s not like elite goal tenders are an easy find in the free agent market (or in our current prospect pool). We don’t appear to have a defense, as its currently built, to make up for decent goaltending. What would it take to fix that? I’m not sure but I’d think that at least a partial rebuild might be needed in that case. I don’t like the thought of doing that when we’re so close as it is right now. There’s gotta be a way to keep our core and sign Shesty. Otherwise, we’re probably screwed.
JaqenHghar
We’re definitely going to re-sign him. Can’t wait for these posts to end. We’ll be unhappy either way unless we win a cup.
Let’s just fucking do it this year.
Rockonthrulife
I would rather give a proven play-off performer who is the only reason we even got to the ECF the money than a young player who has proven nothing yet in terms of consistency and often is lazy defensively, that’s for damn sure. 8 million for 8 years for Laffy is a slap in the face to Igor. He deserves a hell of a lot more than 4 million more than Laffy. Let Laffy prove himself for another year or two then throw him the big bucks and long term. Much too soon for either. Give Shesty everybody’s money since most of our top players don’t deserve even half of what they’re paid.
GodModeOnn
I wouldn’t pay him. I think you need to blow this team up and start a full blown rebuild. Think about the return you could get for players like Igor, Fox, Panarin, etc.
Think about how many first round picks that would be. We could load up in the draft, develop, and get players that may someday be half as good as Igor, Fox, and Panarin…..
Pay him.
TheIncredibleHork
This is very much a Kobayashi Maru in some ways.
Either you sign the best goalie in the league to a very high cap hit, running the risk of hamstringing the team on high end talent until a) we dump some salary by players leaving or b) the cap increases enough to offset;
Or, you let the best goalie in the league walk (or trade him if we’re tanking), and you hope that you can outsource that job to a good enough goalie and, since this is all about getting the supporting cast, get that other forward or forwards that total up to (the projected) $12m.
I lean towards doing the former because the cap will go up and Igor is a known quantity of goalie awesomeness. Searching for UFA goalies in 2025 we could pick up? None of them will either be palatable or realistically available (ie someone like Adin Hill).
jedipussy
What fucking Goalie do people think we could feasbly obtain and win with if we let him go? I mean if anything our core shit the bed in playoffs not igor. Pay the man what he wants so we can all focus on real shit like winning.
fish_stcks
He’s absolutely worth it. He’s been a difference maker in every playoff series. What are you doing with that 12m and no Igor? You need to spend at least a few mil just to get an average goalie to replace him. Then what else? It doesn’t make us better. Trouba coming off the books pays for his raise.
roscomikotrain
88MM was a fair offer
The team gets into mediocrity without $ for a supporting cast.
If someone else wants to give him 12+ let them.
JPmoneyman
Over the last 3 years in the playoffs Igor has 40.5 goals saved above expected, an actual goals against average of 2.29 with an expected GAA of 3.28 which means he’s basically good for one less goal a game than the league average NHL tendy in the playoffs. No goalie in the league even comes close to sniffing those numbers in the playoffs over the last 3 seasons. Bob is second in that timeframe with a phenomenal 30 Goals saved above expected in the last 3 playoffs runs but still trails Igor by 10.5 despite playing 10 more playoff games over that time period. Igor has dragged a flawed Rangers team to game 6 of the eastern conference finals twice in 3 years. From an impact on the game perspective he’s as good as anyone in the league. you’re basically ensuring that you’re a goal better than league average just because one player is on the ice, that’s insane. Igor is a top 10 player in the league right now and he wants to be paid like one and I think he deserves it. Last night was a microcosm of how valuable Igor is to the team, expected goals were Rangers 2.81 Wings 2.57 so if you switch the goalies the wings probably win that game over the course of the season how many times can you say that’s the case with Igor 10 maybe 15 games a year? Losing Igor is probably a 15-20 point swing for this team and a full round worse in the playoffs. With the money you save not paying Igor allocated elsewhere, do you really think the production from whoever those players are will be close to what Igor currently brings to the Rangers?
Georgiewho
This is giving everyone Hank PTSD. The worst part is Allaire leaving soon. I don’t think Shesterkin will do a full collapse without him but Allaire has delivered so many goalies that it’s scary to give the largest goalie contract in the history of the league right as he leaves.
Chaotik86
I really don’t see why 10mil isn’t enough to get this done. I know it’s only 2mil but every dollar counts in this cap era regardless if it’s going up every year.
10mil for 8 years is plenty for a goalie and can also remain competitive.
apreche
James Dolan is a multi-billionaire. Him giving Igor 8×12 is couch change. What’s that asshole got to spend it on that’s better? Another sphere?
Dolan, just go down to the ice and let some NHL players shoot pucks at you. Wear all the pads you want. Now ask yourself. Would you rather go through that again 82+ times a year, not even counting practice, or do you want to pay Igor the money he’s more than earned?
GrexxSkullz
With the rising cap honestly I would.
ajpod
I hate it but he’s probably right
Crimson3312
Some consensus is that it’s more about length rather than money. He’d probably take 11 mil at 5 years.
Whole-Willingness-42
ABSOLUTELY
Norby710
Lundqvist all over again but they have no trade leverage this time.
breadmon10
Can’t wait 3 years from now the next great debate in here will be we should never of payed Igor
Sjdillon10
There’s no choice. But i don’t know if we’ll win a cup with him either. Hank ate up basically the same % of the cap as Igor wants to. And we couldn’t ever surround him with talent. Big contract in a capped sport is never good for the team as a whole.
BarryMycickinher
Couldn’t win with the guy they called King Henrik. Goalies can’t score goals and shouldn’t make anything over 8 million.
