  1. Until they reach 10 games… I don't look at the start and label it any more… reason being, the players whine about how long the preseason is, play in 1 maybe 2 games and their first 4-5 they look like they've never played together and are sloppy as hell (even the winners.). So until we reach November.. I don't look at records too much.. Hell, back just before covid, my team for 2 years straight looked like the team to beat in the first 10 games both years…. by Feb they were out of it. So I don't put any stock in the Oct part of the season.

  2. Very Happy with the start. Season is long tough. Good start still helps for sure. Will see where we end up. I still have no expectation or anything. Just happy to see those wins (especially vs VAN and EDM).

  3. They aren't going 82 and 0, but they are still going to prove a lot of people wrong (if they haven't already).
Zary is a super smart two-way player, and I want to see more of Pospisil at center. We'll see what they can do this season. I am also excited to see Sharangovich's play when he gets back.

  4. They have oodles of offensive talent…very young and mid career. They have two solid tenders. I can see the PP winning some tight games. Chemistry and defense will be the key. Check in at 25 games.

  5. In the off-season some teams get so over hyped and others way under hyped. It's always been that way. And often people forget how much parity there is in the league when making off-season predictions. I was surprised when virtually everyone was predicting the flames to be terrible. They have potentially elite goaltending if Wolf continues to dominate like he has in every other league he's played in. They have tons of forward depth, which can somewhat lessen the blow of not having a superstar filled top line. And if Huby gets going they could have a superstar again. The only real weak points I see are potentially defense and Center. But if a few young defenseman play well and Pospisil plays well at center they might be fine there too.

  6. So far, it just seems like all 4 forward lines seems to be in tuned and balanced both offensively and defensively. All 4 forward lines contributing to scoring. Huberdeau given this year the ability to be on the PK. Which according to Huska, brings more focus into playing. So his playing numbers jump up from 15 minutes to 20-22 minutes. Huska’s wear and tear 200 foot game plan seems to be well received. Has proven to be given wins early. As long as everyone is rolling out the same game plan each game day. It has given a bit of insight that similar to Boston Bruins like mentality. Having fun and yet beating others because the hard work offers opportunities to succeed. Certainly taking the little notes from certain NHL franchises has really stepped up for Calgary early on. So as a Flames fan, it’ll be more interesting to see closer to Christmas to where the direction Flames could potentially be placed as a playoff contender or a bubble team. But it has been fun so far.

  7. If the flames win the next 4of 6 or even of 3 of I’ll be like this team might be better then I thought and even more impressive to win back to backs it’s done thing Calgary usually always lost in the past two years

  8. They are playing competitive, fast-paced hockey and thats about all you could ever ask for from the Flames at this stage. Zary and Pospisil are legitimately excellent NHL-quality players who are suddenly crucial to the success or failure of the club. They have talent in all positions and have a chip on their shoulder so far. Be fun to watch if they can be solid all year.

  9. I’m having fun with these flames so far. My biggest concern would be them “midding out” again when they should be rebuilding. It’s still early, so the expectation of them ending the year well out of the playoffs can still happen (and hopefully lead to more great draft picks!). The fear is them ending the year out of the playoffs (or just in), buying at the deadline and wasting the asset capital being built

  10. Thanks so much for giving the Flames their due, Shannon! I know it won't last, but if you hadn't made this video the time to have a mini celebration would have already passed. Just enjoying the ride. Kudos!

  11. As a Flames fan, thanks for that. I'm cautiously optimistic. They are showing the intangibles that make a difference.

  12. Absolutely dig these trending topic videos, Shannon. Who am I kidding? I try and watch everything you produce. Flames is an excellent NHL story and just another strong reason, we as passionate fans must sell our game/league to new fans.

  13. {Channel Plegde} Share the NHL + educate a New Fan! Grew up never skating/ZERO hockey fans in my family. Watched NHL 94-95 Playoffs and became absolutely hooked. (Blackhawks fan in Chicago)

  14. The key is Craig Conroy, and his ability to recognize players that can perform in the NHL. Sharangovich was my first clue, and so far I like Bahl, Miromanov and Pachal on defense. That was a big worry after trading away Hanifin, Tanev and Zadorov. Anyone hoping for a tank job for high draft picks, careful what you wish for – you might end up like Buffalo, Ottawa or Edmontons 10 years of futility. I’m cheering for Conroy to keep finding decent players, and Huska instilling a good identity and culture. Teams like Boston manage to stay competitive without bottoming out for draft picks. It’s still early though, the first 10 games are always a bit crazy.

  15. Vladar wasn't shakey against the Canucks. Power plays have a way of wrecking a goalie's night. Wolf is the Real McKoy. Flames D Corps is good to very good. Flames forward group isn't too shabby. This with 5 sophomores (Zary, Pospisil, Miromanov, Pachal, Coronato) and 3 rookies (Honzek, Klapka, Wolf).

  16. I hope the team stays healthy throughout the season. If many fall to injury, that could spell a possible playoff end to the Flames. I would like to witness another '89 win before I'm too old to remember what hockey is.

  17. The Flames are also doing this without their leading goal scorer last season in Sharangovich, which I think is a great sign.

This team is outworking everyone and playing for each other, and if that keeps up it could take them far. They won't go 82-0, but if they keep playing the kind of hockey they have been I think it is entirely possible they can keep stringing together wins.

I am cautiously optimistic, but even if they end up having the kind of season everyone expects their work ethic is very encouraging to see.

  18. They have been without sharangovich those 4 games as well. Went to the home opener with my dad, son and wife and older brother bought them all a ticket was best game I’ve been too🔥

  19. As a Flames fan, I hate this. This is totally a Calgary flames thing to do. They’ll play solid until mid season, barely miss the playoffs, and get like 15th pick in the draft.

  20. I don't see Conroy adding players, barring pressure from ownership. He does seem like a man with a plan intent on drafting as much as possible

  21. I predicted that flames might surprise, but it would be mostly pain. Its still extremely early, but its nice to be on top (for now). Again, its so early, EDM played like doodoo kaka before they went on their 17 game win streak. Huberdeau looks good. Lomberg is the engine for the rotating cast that is the 4th line. If Kuzmenko and Kadri get going, and Huberdeau and the additional scoring from the bottom six keeps up this team might be a legit playoff team. I still think they come back to earth and may be in the hunt for a wildcard spot, but thats what i love about hockey; you never know until you know. Any team can go on a magical run and make the playoffs against all odds

  22. Great analysis. As a flames fan I can confirm that most Calgarians see the Canucks as their biggest rival, not the Oilers. Maybe too many people with split allegiances? I have been holding out on a jersey since I started watching hockey again early last season. I was split between Mangpiane and Coronato. Mangy is gone and Coronato could be gone in 1-2 years. If Huberdeau is close to a point per game by Xmas, I am committing to a Huberdeau jersey and he will be my guy.

  23. Keep playing to win Cowtown, hoping good things happen this year. I won't talk boldly because I don't want to jinx you and I root for another team.
