Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby make Penguins history on the same night!

Evgeni Malkin scored his 500th goal and Sidney Crosby reached 1,600 points in what was an incredible win over Buffalo! Patrick and Hunter talk about how the two reached the milestone on Wednesday night as well as break down the Penguins’ chaotic 6-5 overtime win against the Sabres. Then, after enjoying all the euphoria of the victory, they have to bring it down to talk about the elephant in the room…the goaltending issues. What to do with Tristan Jarry, if there’s anything the team can do, and the fact that they might just be stuck with this. Finally, Patrick gives an impassioned speech about why it was so important that Sid and Geno not only reached these milestones but reached them as Penguins.

  1. Yeah it took one of our goalies to make unnecessary ridiculous saves to help beat the Buffalo Sabres. Jarry isn’t a bigger issue than how sloppy the team plays overall. I’ve a hard time watching this team for about 4yrs now. No matter the amount of roster changes, goalies, assistant coaches, GMs & yet Sullivan is still the head coach..Jarry could be better but i feel like there are many more issues before Jarry’s performances.

  2. Playing 4 games in 7? nights at the NHL level may be one of the issues last night I mean com-on NHL, as much as I want games the boys need rest Now if the boys can get the D to be consistent they could be dangerous, the pp is working the pk is always good depth scoring is contributing and I also believe that the confidence is growing so getting down by a goal or two wont rattle them like last year we will see though, Jarry needs to go, for his own well being IMO

  3. Blomqvist really reminds me a lot of rookie Matt Murray when he came in and looked like a veteran goalie. Poised, calm, collected, and confident. They need to continue to play him if they want a chance to win games. Jarry needs to go to Wilkes and work on his issues.

  4. There are three teams, currently, that could take on the entire contract, but Dubas would, definitely have to sweeten the deal with picks, or something.
There's a possible trade for Merzlikins, who's asked to be traded out of Columbus, and is a bad contract that they aren't likely to move otherwise. Anaheim has the space, especially with Gibson on IR. Calgary is the other option. All three have over 10 M in cap space.
You would, likely, have to include someone with a sweet contract, like Puustinen, or maybe Graves with a good pick to entice…

  5. Do we really want another Jagr homecoming with Sid, Geno, or Tanger? They go out, play against us, get their flowers for their first game back, everybody cries at the jumbotron montage, and then they're our opponent? We bring them back on a one day contract, retire their number, and hoist them to the rafters after years of drifting amongst other teams? Is that really how the story is written best?

  6. I was actually crying my eyes out. Won't convince me it's coincidental Sid had the only assist on Geno's goal & vice versa. Similar coincidences that defy the odds happened with Jags and Mario. The universe works in odd ways. Two special people (Sid & Geno) and their relationship was probably destiny.

  7. Another great episode. We could be looking at one of the best if not the best season ever for a 38 year old. I know Howe had 100+ at an older age but seems to me Geno is seriously reinvigorated. I think his parents coming to Pitt for the first time in many years boosted his morale considerably. I also thinks he's very conscious this is one of his last chances to make a serious impact.

  8. I wonder if HIMS has a pill or mint to help your goalie make a save. But in all seriousness, I believe Jarry has become the hockey version of Steve Blass and he's so mentally beat down and "broken" that I don't know if he's ever going to be able to get back to anywhere close to his previous self. I think Bloomer should be getting 60% of the starts even when Ned comes back. Even with the horrendous defense currently Bloomer makes key saves and looks so calm and doesn't get flustered even after giving up a goal. Key saves and making the routine save can make this team very competitive and could be the boost they've needed to get back into the playoffs

  9. Spot on in the last second Patrick. Seeing them hit these milestones and be their competitive selves day in and day out in another uniform would absolutely have hurt. A lot. Would’ve been thrilled for them of course, but man it would’ve been tough. And all the better for them personally that they got to celebrate it with each other too.

On another note, I try to appreciate Crosby for the person he is and the career he’s had rather than wonder what might have been with better health from 2011-2012. BUT, every time I’ve seen the top ten points graphic this year, I shake my fist angrily at David Steckel all over again

  10. The most disgusting part about Jarry last night wasn’t the goaltending. It was his dog shit attitude when Geno hit 500. Jarry couldn’t have cared less. Bad goaltending is one thing, being a garbage teammate is totally different.

  11. I think the pens best option is to keep 3 goaltenders. Split most starts between ned and blomqvist and give jarry a start every once in a while. Nobody's gonna trade for him without a pick or 2 attached to it. You waive him it doesn't bury his cap hit in wbs. They are kind of stuck with him unless they buy him out and that would be 8 years of dead cap money. I think he could still be a decent goaltender if he can build some confidence but when will that be

  12. Honestly when these guys all retire sid and geno hell even letang hockey will never be the same for me 😢

  13. I was at this game with my son. This was our first ever home game in Pittsburgh. We live in Ontario Canada. I have to admit when they announced "welome your Pittsburgh Penguins", I had to fight to hold back the tears. I have been a Pens fan for 30 years….I never thought I would hear those words in my lifetime!!!! 3 goals on 5 shots in unacceptable. I would love to see Jarry succeed, I don't think that will happen sadly. You can't be getting paid $5 million plus, and let in goals like that. Thankfully, the Penguins pulled out the victory.

  14. I think the best moment in this game was when Crosby and Malkin celebrated O'Connor's goal like kids do. They still love hockey and give everything to the team. Pure joy🎉
