Post-Game Reaction: Edmonton Oilers 1, Dallas Stars 4

Forward Leon Draisaitl spoiled the Dallas shutout late in the game off assists from Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but the Oilers couldn’t capitalize during a one-sided first period before giving up three unanswered goals on Saturday afternoon in a 4-1 defeat to the Stars at American Airlines Center. #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. Sorry to say this, but Skinner is a liability at this point. This was a great game and the goalkeeper was the difference. Not sure if on trainings Skinner is performing better and Pickard is not, however we cant continue like this especially as the team was more cohesive today and missing link was Skinner. Frustrating! Love your videos Austin.

  2. I think it’s genuinely time to possibly trade Nuge at the deadline, he hasn’t been good enough last year in a 6 games this year. Get a player who can actually drive plays and not just a PP merchant, this team needs another finisher on the PP we are way too predictable and Skinner is a dog in the corners. Also break up Janmark and Nuge it’s bad enough one is on the ice rn putting them together is an offensive nightmare.

  3. 39 great minutes – did not put it in the net though… the PP is not producing at the moment. First line did not front run as well in terms of scoring. Not to worried, tough opponent and the Oil not dialed in yet perfectly. Still lots to come once Hyman, Nuge, Arvidsson start scoring. LFG Oilers – 2025 is gonna be our year!

  4. The timeout was used earlier in the second period to give the top guns a rest in back to back pp’s. Thats why there was no timeout after drais goal. Thanks Austin.

  5. I am tired of being 'alone' criticizing Skinner and most Oilers fans crediting him for being 'good enough'. Well good enough is not gonna bring us cups, not this year, not ever. He is, even if we make the playoffs, even if we have a good run for the cup, a LIABILITY. And McDavid was again all game long 'in his way'. Draisaitl plays still at 50% capacity, McDavid at 30%. PP and PK at 'perceived' 30% of what it was. We can dominate most teams in 5 on 5, score very little from our chances, and then one goal against the the sand-castle crumbles together. Until we have a serious goalie, we can only pray for nice-weather in Edmonton, it will most of the time not happen.

  6. Don't forget to mention that the 2nd goal was born of a non-sensical pass from McDavid. Most of his passes land at the opposing team, most of his 'sprints' end up in the wall. I agree he is God, I agree he is the best, but what he showed so far this season is very very bad. Isn't anyone wondering what is going on with him?

  7. We're back to relying on our #1 number line constantly. It's early in the season, let's see what the other lines can contribute. When we tried last year we were pleasantly surprised. And it gave our top line more energy when we really needed them.

  8. I will say, as frustrating as this loss was, our defense is looking excellent this year. Even Nurse has been awesome, especially the past few games. Depth scoring has been great too. Not sure about our top line and Skinner lately though.

  9. the way we had 4 PK players all 'bunched' on the right side, while the middle was 'free highway' is for me so naive, I don't get it what is the training team doing, they don't speak to each other, there isn't a leader on the field to warn about positioning on the field??? I am fuming how can we lose a game where we were pinning Dallas at the wall for 40 minutes…

  10. So many times I've seen a goalie bail out their team when the Oilers are dialed in. It's like they embody a cornered animal that reacts instantly to everything. Could've easily been 3-0 Oilers in the first

  11. The Oilers MUST get league average goaltending if they’re going to do another deep run. Look how well they played in the playoffs when Skinner was on his game. That’s literally all they need from him. Just be an average tendy in the NHL. That’s it.

  12. McDavid needs to look for the shot instead of the pass. Skinner needs to fix his glove side. RNH needs to come off the first PP unit and Skinner should take his place.

  13. Draisatil more important to tuck in his jersey and show off rather than playing like he’s the highest paid player in the league

  14. Oilers know the Western Conference is weak and they can easily make the playoffs. They are just resting up till February

  15. Canucks fan here its so early that all the sudden we look like a wagon lol from 0-1-2 to 2-1-2 basically what I'm trying to say everybody just chill

  16. Like you said, I'm not going to panic because overall we did play very well in this game and deserved better. But the lack of finishing, especially on the PP, has to be addressed. I would personally put Jeff Skinner on both McDavid's line and the 1st PP unit when we play the Canes, because as much as I love Nuge (he's been my favourite player since I became a fan in 2013), he's just not shooting and not getting it done. Oettinger's performance today also made me wonder again what this Oilers team could do if we actually had a goaltender of his caliber in net, because like you said, Skinner's had another bad start and he's just too inconsistent. Defence and goaltending should be our top two priorities when it comes to upgrades this season, there's little doubt about that. And hopefully, we rediscover our scoring touch soon too

  17. This game is similar to Game 6 in the Western Final. Skinner goalied them. I think we scored 2 on 10 shots. If this is karma for that game, in an early reg season game, ill take it. We played well enough to win, got goalied. Our pp, pk and goalie need improvement. Hopefully we keep plugging away and the new guys continue building chemistry with the rest of the team.
