How About The Last Unbeaten Team…

Nhl hockey today – First month of the 2024-25 NHL Season rolls on and there is only one undefeated team left after today’s pittsburgh penguins vs winnipeg jets game . Sure, nhl standings in october are certainly far from indicative of how the season will go, but with certain teams there’s plenty of intrigue given recent performances in the regular season or playoffs . The jets core of Connor hellebuyck mark scheifele kyle connor nikolaj ehlers adam lowry josh morrissey have been through lots of ups and downs but after this penguins vs jets highlights this “up” continues to be pretty lengthy. 1. If they weren't the Jets, I might say they're legit. The problem with the Jets is that they either run super hot, or super cold. It won't be too long before they inexplicably turn ice cold.

  2. Man it's about time. Absolutely crushing it rn. Great to see. As a Habs fan I appreciated the support from Jets fans when we did well and its not forgotten, have always liked them as a team and their logo and their fans haven't been bad to me and that whiteout is crazy.

  3. Consistency has always been the biggest threat to the team. But at the very least, the power play is getting the pucks in the net! And until the Jets hit the playoffs, it’ll be interesting to see if that consistency remains

  4. Sure, ig they're legit for now. But I'd give them till January before the wheels fall off just like the last 2 years and if they don't then yeah maybe the actually are lol

  5. Too early to tell. I just want them to do well throughout the season that gets them to a good spot in the playoffs and go on another deep run. Tbh when a team does well in the regular season, it just puts more pressure on them come playoffs and the playoffs are a different game.

  6. The Jets are playing well, we won't know the Stanley Cup winner for another 8 months though so don't plan the parade route yet.
    Their schedule has been soft.
Aside from the Oilers in the opener they've played a few league bottom teams (Chicago & San Jose).
They won in OT vs Minnesota at home (who played the day before while the Jets didn't).
Today's win over Pittsburgh is another team unlikely to make the playoffs & are well past their prime.
When the schedule gets more difficult & Winter begins we'll see how they really are.

  7. I’ve been watching my jets religiously the last 4 seasons. The chemistry I think in my opinion is the driving factor of why this team is doing so good early on. Helle is obviously a big part of this team but it seem as if the top 6 has evolved there game defensively. We also changed both special teams coaches and our Special teams has been absolutely miller with the new systems. Pionk has evolved with a better more solid d partner and miller and fleury have been amazing additions to upgrade our blue line from years prior. Sorry for the paragraph just my two cents

  8. I dunno why jets vs preds playoff series gets overlooked…. 2 of leagues best, 7 games, great rivals, exciting games…. WTF 😮

  9. As a jets fan, if we had Toffoli, Dillon and Monahan still here the jets would without a doubt be in everyone’s cup contention ballot

  10. Jets have tons of depth, the best goalie in the world, and pretty much the same team as last year, minus toffoli and monahan, ehlers and pionk will be beasts, bc they are pending FA, Jets could win a lot and even maybe play for the cup, but, will lose pionk and ehlers for nothing, way she goes but will be well worth it, from a Jets fan.

  11. The team looks good. There's a little slop to clean up but the forecheck is good, the cycle game is good, the goaltending is good. The ingredients are all there, and I want to believe it's different from last year, but the truth is we won't know until we get there. The young guys seem a bit more comfortable in the league, and honestly I'm loving what I'm seeing from Colin Miller, but yeah, this is a team that's passed the eye test with flying colors many times before, only to fall apart when it really counts. Probably the biggest thing giving me hope, the last two years they started strong and eventually fell apart, but the fall happened a little later each time. If the trend continues, maybe this year they fall apart at the cup parade, at which point, who cares? Also on the positives side, the movement in the O-zone has been greatly improved, especially on the powerplay, which was a serious sore spot last year. Watching the game against the Pens and hearing Pittsburg announcers lauding their team for shutting down the best powerplay in the league on their first chance felt weird, but that's where the numbers are right now. We wait, we hope, we see. It's fun to hope, right?

  12. Great team! Winnipeg really deserves it!
The secondary scoring needs to be healthy and flourish, Vilardi, Elhers, Neiter are high end but need to stay in the game and up their contribution.
The smallish D men Morrissey and Poink need to stay healthy and their young players need to mature. Lowery is a great captain. Go Jets!

  13. Here's my take – two seasons ago… There had been heavy talk about a divided toxic locker room (wheeler and pld with a few smaller chips and they all leave).

Last season, bowness comes in.. Makes them look amazing in the regular season with that defensive structure play. But thay always looks great on paper until anyone breaks through it then they're scrambling. So my big change that I see is
A.) special team coaches are new and the new structure is great and actually a winning formula for a strong pp and pk
B.) arniel is running mostly same lines but he's pushing a more offensive team knowing helly is behind them in the pipes. Already seeing the blue line close in in the offense and smother the net

C.) this team has something to prove. The top teams in the central are a grind and can swing any way, and I think jets can be a sneaky cup contender this year.

Long read but that's my take about what's different.

  14. Ehlers Scheif, Connor and Pionk have been on fire. Throw in Appleton, Kupari, Miller, also taking huge steps, and Miller being a machine from the point and they've upped their game in so many ways from last year.

  15. Cautiously optimistic lmao. Never gna believe it until I see it as a Jets fan that’s been through it.

  16. The Jets rolled the Avs in game one of the playoffs last year 7-5 (almost 8-4). The second last regular season game the Jets blew out Colorado seven nothing. Then for game two bones decided that the Jets wouldn’t win playing wide-open hockey even though they just beat Colorado twice in a row. I know it’s scoring them 14 to 5. So they went into a defensive shell and never got close again. Scott will make all the difference.

  17. What I keep thinking about is the Capitals in the 2010s when they were behemoths in the regular season and were always bounced. They made magic happen, why can’t the jets

  18. New Special teams coach! Arniel the same, Flats our goalie coach is there and brilliant- but new assistant coaches are making the Pap and PK more effective. Plus a few tweaks on the D care- Samburg and Pionk, Millerc and fleury seem to be solid.

  19. Both Canucks and Winnipeg should only play in their retro jerseys they look so much better than the newer ones
