A goalies job is to put themselves in front of a puck… While you may think their equipment makes that no big deal if you've never played the position, trust me, every now and then the puck WILL find a gap and it WILL hurt. I've had a puck hit me in the hip and freeze my leg, I couldn't move my leg at all for about 5 minutes. I've been hit in the elbow and lost control of my hand for even longer. These kinds of things aren't uncommon and if you can't experience that and still put yourself in the line of fire without hesitation then you simply CAN'T be a goalie… So yeah, we tend to be weird.

On why us goalies are weird… Maybe it's either you actually need to be a little crazy to voluntarily stand behind a piece of hard packed rubber coming at you in like 100km/h. Either that or it's the fact that many of us became goalies from no one else wanting to be one. So all those normie regular players find the slightly wonky or weird ones and we get pressed until we are the team goalie and eventually you just start loving it! 😂

Look, hockey involves big hard discs of solid frozen rubber being shot at lethal speeds. It takes a special kind of person to intentionally put themselves in front of those.
"I'm going to work my entire life towards the goal of having professional athletes fire solid rubber projectiles at 100+ MPH directly at my face." That's a perfectly rational and logical thing for a perfectly normal and sane individual to say and pursue. No Idea why goalies get the "weird" tag.

Even in youth hockey, goalies have weird tendencies and rituals and are super strange.
