  1. The cracks with the Bruins under Don Sweeney started when the Hall of Fame level core he inherited of Bergeron Marchand Krejci Pasta Chara Krug and Rask all got older and slowed, retired and or moved on

Name me one thing that all of those players have in common?

Not a single one of them was originally traded for, drafted by or signed as a UFA by Don Sweeney. All of them were brought to Boston by a different Bruins GM

The talent drop off from that Hall of Fam core to the one that exists today in Boston is HUGE!!!.

Since 2015 the big wins in free agency have been Sweeney re-signing in-house guys.

However, the UFAs outside the organization heā€™s brought here in total have been more bad than they have been good

You can say the same for the trades but for every Coyle trade there is Jimmy Hayes for Reilly Smith one to talk about

Then thereā€™s the drafting problem that is two pronged.

The first prong is when they have drafted since 2015, the combined results havenā€™t been nearly good enough

Yes, the second part of the equation here (not having high enough draft picks regularly) is also an issue but you need to at least hit on a few guys in rounds 3 to 7 and outside of Jeremy Swayman, who was drafted exactly where he was expected to be, Sweeney has failed to do that

Also itā€™s worth mentioning that far too many Sweeney Apologist say he moves picks only to win when the fact is picks, players and prospects have been moved by Sweeney to fix his mistakes and open up Cap Space, not to win

Backes- 2020 1st and highest drafted player from 2018, 2nd round d-man Axl Andersson sen to ANA to get out Backes contract

John Moore- 2nd round picks sent to NASH to get out of his contract

Matt Belesky- 2nd round dman given away to NYR as patt of the Belesky salary dump

Taylor Hall- given away for nothing but Cap Space

Lauzon- Pissed away in the expansion for nothing so Sweeney could re-sign a crappy Matt Grelyck that they kept benching in the playoffs anyway

Zach Rinadlo- Traded a 3rd for the guy and then didnā€™t even sign him

Hampus Lindholm- Say what you want but heā€™s arguably been the worst d-man of any team in the post season the last two years and they gave up a 1st, a 2nd and their highest drafted player from 2017, 1st round pick Vaak in the deal to get him.

Does anyone think the way Lindholm has played here that theyā€™d do that deal again knowing what they know now? ZERO CHANCE!!!

So Don Sweeney has pissed away plenty of draft picks, roster players and prospects not trying to win, but simply trying to fix some of his mistakes. This is a fact the Don Sweeney Apologist Society simply refuses to admit

The Bruins also stunk on offense and defense at 5×5 last season.

Adding Lindholm and subtracting Debrusk isnā€™t adding much to the defense or the offense and on the blue line, all they did was bring in Zadorov who is a big hitter and intimidator but heā€™s also not great defensively and he takes a mountain of dumb penalties

In 10 years of drafting and 58 picks Don Sweneey has only added one Top 6 forward via the draft, Debrusk, who is gone now and many would say was more of a middle 6 guy most nights here

The offense wasnā€™t good at 5×5 last year. They didnā€™t have much in PVD they could count on going into this year and proof that was true, none of those guys made the team out of camp

They didnā€™t do nearly enough to fix the offense this past off season. Sure Kastelic and Jones will add some size and aggression they needed but they arenā€™t scorers come playoff time and again, Lindholm will help some offensively but that amounts to him just replacing Debrusk which will be a wash

The defense wasnā€™t good at 5xā€™5 last year too and adding a below average defender in Zadorov isnā€™t going to fix that problem even if he is a big hitter

The Bruins needed to either get much better defensively or much better offensively this past offseason if they expected to be Cup competitive this year and beyond and all they did was ..

-Swap out Debruskā€™s offense for Lindholmā€™s which will basically be a wash

-Add some size, aggression and toughness with Kastelic and Jones but no additional scoring

-Add some size and toughness with Zadorovo but added nothing to actually improve the ā€œdefenseā€ of their defensive core

And folks around here are wondering why they are still having a crap ton of problems at 5×5 both on offense and defense already? Iā€™m not sure why

This downturn would have been more ready to be accepted by the Bruins fan base if they didnā€™t start so hot last year

However, somehow people forgot that the Bruins came screaming back to earth with a much less potent second half of the year, then they regressed back to what they really were in the postseasonā€¦

A lower seed, playoff team that may be able to win a round but thatā€™s about it

Thatā€™s still what the Bruins are today and thatā€™s all they will probably be this year unless Sweeney surprises with some big moves

It is what is but expecting anything more than maybe a playoff berth with this roster would be dumb solely based on their cap situation, a rotten farm system and the fact that they canā€™t just keep pissing away 1st and 2nd round picks chasing early playoff exitsā€¦.. which means it will be difficult for them to improve significantly via any trades

Thatā€™s why the farm system stinks every year and itā€™s the number one reason they have no good, young cost, controlled talent to work with right now. Too many picks traded away that resulted in nothing but playoff fails

And thatā€™s before we even get into the fact that theyā€™ll more than likely have to face Florida in the 1st or 2nd round of the postseason later this year and we donā€™t need a crystal ball to know how thatā€™s likely going to end

This Bruins Organization needs a new direction and itā€™s long past time for a reset

If this thing goes the way it looks like itā€™s going this year, itā€™s time for Sweeney, Neely, most of the executive and scouting staff and Montgomery to go at the end of year

They arenā€™t winning in the playoffs under Don Sweeney, the farm system is in ruins and the core talent level of the big club roster has eroded since the core he inherited of Bergeron Krejci Marchand Pasta Krug Krejci and Rask has gotten older & slower, retired or just moved on

Something has to change if there are ever going to be different results for the Boston Bruins in the post season

But if the Jacobs' choose to keep Sweeney and Neely foreverā€¦.

Expect more meaningless regular season wins followed by early playoff exits/chokes and one of the NHLā€™s worst farm systems because thatā€™s all Sweeney and Neely have achieved for the Bruins since Don Sweeney became GM in 2015

And thatā€™s not opinion, itā€™s just FACT!!! Get over it Bruins homers and Sweeney ApologistsšŸ¤£

  2. Get hampster a new team to go float on. A peewee team so he has a chance of winning a puck battle in the corner

  3. Absolutely love your vids Joe! Nice to see u too Jim, miss reading ur articles on BHN.

  4. I think Jay Leach was brought in as an asst coach to take this team over if they blow up. The bruins are close to be considered as blowing up.
