  1. Leafs are just soft and spoiled. Unfortunately the core 5 have picked up too many bad habits and no amount of coaching will re-make this team. Please oh please do not re-sign Marner. He looked like a confused kid out there last night.

  2. Why dont they just swap the entire team with the Marlys? You will at least have more passioin.

  3. I don’t think elements at the top of this group of players are buying in to this honestly, it’s beginning to look like some of the guys are going through the motions on what’s expected of them – but not caring enough about the result of it. Concerning as there was vibes of that, Boston could be a bloodbath with where they are right now – they’ll be loving having us lot next

  4. Last night was 2 episode season premier for Lower Decks and 3 episode season finale for Vox Machina, so I didn't see much of this game. I can see I made the right choice

  5. They'll beat Boston like Tampa and make us all confused even more lol.

I think it's just the team getting used to the new coach. They have gotten so used to playing for Keith, and the habbits are still there. When they play how they should it's amazing than when old habits come back the team looks off. OEL looked good in both games, not to say he can't improve but to say he doesn't have those bad habits. Plays consistently. He remade his game in Florida and carried that with him to the leafs.

What I mean by that is not everyone on the team has those bad habits, but it messes up the flow of the team when those habits interfere with Berube coaching.

Habits are hard to break, and if they want to win the thing. The team better play like every game matters. Losing even one game in the playoffs can turn the momentum.

  6. Matthew’s never should have been in the selke talk – that’s just a ridiculous narrative driven by the teams ownership which, also owns the bulk of the sports media that covers the NHL in Canada. He’s never been a possession Center or a dyed in the wool play making Center. Matthew’s is first and foremost a shooter. When you watch him play he doesn’t have a Crosby or Getzlaf style where he protects the puck, he’s much more a rush down player, also a bit more
Like kucherov where he’s good at reading the ice and sneakily making sure he’s alone in good shooting positions. But I would never, ever compare him to two way players like Bergeron or Barkov or even Erickson Ek, Matthew’s is just not that guy – the conversation never should have even happened.

  7. Matthews is a lazy player, he has an awesome shot, if someone passes him the puck when he is standing in front of the net he is great, other than that he is a lethargic pylon….

  8. Maybe, hear me out, maybe the problem is the core.

Third line center makes $11m. Winger that has won nothing makes $11m (and he thinks he is underpaid). That’s the problem.

  9. Mitch isn't bench over Willy because Mitch isn't a lazy hockey player, and you can't say the same for Willy.
Sure Mitch gives the puck away constantly but you'll never see him give up on a back check.

  10. The only thing I could think of that could possibly be worse than this loss would be something crazy like losing to an emergency 3rd string goalie who is a Zamboni driver that works for your own team. Thankfully that’s never happened so this is definitely the worst.

  11. 1. No
    2. Questionable
    3. Yes
    4. No
    5. Yes, and it's not the couch it's the guys who play for him
    6. I'm not sure, I'm not a Psychic

  12. I smile with joy every time the guys say "credentialed leafs reporter Jesse". So proud of your team's hard work and success!

  13. Willy gets benched because it helps him reset. Mitch getting benched exacerbates the problem. To me, this seems like a simple case of too much of a leadership shake up all at once and it's just going to take some time for everyone to adjust to Berube and Matthews being the leaders. Let's not forget that Brad Treliving has been there 16 months, himself. Get the foot off the gas pedal of panic, loosen the grip on the wheel, and relax.

  14. Benefit of this game only. Since berube was their coach for 5+ years, the players know the system he runs, so all the dump and chase moments quickly stopped

  15. Robertson Tavares Marner, McMan Mathews Domi, Patcherelli Nylander Jarnkrok, Lorentz Kampf Reeves

  16. I mean, since they lost Hyman their left wing has been a wasteland.
So I yeah, the answer to all your questions about it is "Yes", because they haven't had a left wing for years and have done everything you mentioned aside from winning the division… Now, does that mean the left wing situation is "good"? No ,of course not, but it's also not like this is a new and unique problem.

  17. Hate watching lfr after a loss because Steve loses all logic and hockey sense. It’s two losses at the BEGINNING OF THE SEASON. How do you all actually care this much. 74 games to go. I believe that’s a lot of game…

  18. I see what you’re saying…. Idk…. This Bruins fan has pretty low faith in what his team can do. There may be hope for you yet. Matthew’s is due for a big game, you have more talent, anything can happen. Hang in there Steve, I hope the Leafs find a more positive identity to stick with soon.

  19. Not sure if the issue is too much individual effort, not enough team chemistry, lack of planned plays, overabundance of brainfarts, or just sleeping on home games.

  20. WIlly played great for most of the game. Was winning battles on the boards, stealing pucks, creating high danger chances. Yes his turn over was horrible and stupid and he said so himself, but it reeked of desperation, like he was trying too hard to make something happen because Matthews and Marner were having a turd-off

  21. Have we thought that maybe, just maybe, Stolarz is doing SO good in net that he doesn't need a whole lot of support in front of him? I mean I think he is a very big reason the leafs have one anything this year. If it was samsonov in net vs. Tampa, there is no doubt that game would have at least went to OT.
Sure, ~60% of the salary cap couldn't play hockey at all too so that doesn't help, but I think stolarz makes those extra saves that would be goals and I really think that is the only real difference between the wins and losses.
