Devils Still Lost to The Red Wings Despite a Solid Performance…Did The Referees Screw Them Over?

The New Jersey Devils did everything right, except win the game. They lost to the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 in the Motor City. Nico Hischier tried his best to carry the team on his back but ultimately came up short. There was a lot of physicality in the third period and some questionable calls made by the referees. Those decisions might’ve costed the Devils.

  1. Easy now. Referring was awful on both sides…. Soft slashing call on Seider and phantom trio call on Petry. Devils and 5 PP but they let in (3) 5 on 5 goals. The issue here was goaltending and key moments…. Letting two goals 25 seconds in, particularly on a Luke Hughes giveaway let Detroit back in the game. In addition, Kane’s goal went right through Markstrom. Devils high priced talent didn’t get the job done…. That is the only screw job there.

  2. You absolutely can give Dillon an extra 2 for initiating the fight with Fischer. Dillon made the same bad hit on Larkin earlier in the game and Wings fans were pissed with no call, but Larkin didn't drop the gloves and try to fight Dillon. Take your medicine Brendan and move on. The refs were bad all night long on both sides, it's just sour milk to blame this loss on that. Markstrom was not as good as Talbot tonight and I think that was the difference ultimately.

  3. This game the Devils played very well with the exception of the 2 min in the first period, but can we address the bugaboo in the room? Luke is and has always been a turnover MACHINE… how many times last season did he turn the puck over in the D zone leading to goals against?

  4. The red wings had a better goalie, full stop. Talbot absolutely killed it in net for them. Unpopular opinion.. markstrom is not the answer to our goal tending issues .. I said it.

  5. Please stop with the should of won the game stuff. Thats sore loser talk. Ain’t no shoulda woulda coulda. Can’t change the past or blame refs. Just move forward

  6. Here's the problem. I feel like they KNOW they messed up on a wrong call. So what they do is try to make it up by giving the other team a powerplay. Even the last call on the red wings for tripping. What? It was so unnecessary to call that. But devils still got a goal.
