  1. It will end with lengthy jail sentences. We keep trying to solve this deadly behaviour without appropriate punishment. The old reasoning that it is not a deterent is bogus. If stiff penalties of imprisonment become the norm word will spread and many should change their attitudes. It seems to be our only hope. Nothing else has worked. Take a hard line and stick to it. Innocent people are dying. When two brothers can’t go for a bike ride the night before their sister’s wedding without being killed by a an uncaring, self-absorbed drunk ( he admitted so) , then no one is safe! What a needless tragedy. Do something drastic or this will not change!!

  2. Is there any sidewalk where the two brothers wers riding their bikes? Beacuse we have side walk here in Alberta and if there is no sidewalk we dont walk on it. especially at night. Do your time Higgins, Jail time and it's not fun. The Police never mentioned if the two brothers are wearing helmets during that time of the fatal accident. He thinks he can get away with it. serve your time I hope it's life of no return.

  3. Am I reading this right???? Twenty years for murdering two people? What kind of law is this? 10 years per life?? Do you not value life but value drunks more? Then do you let this drunk out for good behavior in 6 years? Disgusting!

  4. What is the common denominator of these guys who feel entitled enough to drive drunk and recklessly like laws don't apply to them? Is it their skin color, how they are encouraged and emboldened when pandered to by populist demagogue politicians or both? This situation used to be rare but has become so common in the last 2 decades.

  5. This man is being treated worse than a sexual offender. What flight risk is he? The chance of him reoffending is minimal. Innocent until proven guilty. Holding him in custody just because these guys are famous

  6. That man has a family too. Sean higgens has a family too. If those two vehciles didnt attempt to pass the bike riders sean wouldnt have attempted to pass. Ever been in a lane where someone goes to change lanes and when they do there is a car or bike ahead of them going much slower?

  7. Very sad for that family! And Higgins He’s being treated just like every other person who kills someone driving DWI they is a process slow but surely. Thanks for video

  8. I grew up on the East Coast. If you’re so blind drunk that you don’t see 2 guys on bikes (which have reflective items in them), you have a serious drinking problem. There’s no way you can get drunk on 6 East Coast beers; the alcohol percentage is only 2-3%.

  9. Higgins has several prior DUIs, convictions for having an open container of alcohol in the car, AND actively drinking from an open container of alcohol while driving. The dude was chugging back another beer when he hit them (he’s charged with that again, too). All per a report from one of the Philly news stations.

NJ needs to tighten up their drunk driving laws. This guy should have had his license revoked before this. Would he have driven anyway? That’s impossible to guess at this point.

  10. As an Army veteran and someone who was arrested twice for DUI but never charged… sober now but… there’s no excuse. We know what we are doing, we never do it just “once”. The ONLY reason I was never charged was as nobody got hurt. But as a veteran what killed me is that I could have killed the very people I swore an oath to protect. Against all enemies foreign and… domestic. Side note: Uber should go back to accepting cash. You used to be able to I think.

  11. Kills two people and then says to the judge “wait I’m stuck here until Thursday?”.

WTH! Talk about zero remorse for his actions.

  12. Of course he was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have noticed that they are the choice vehicle for dangerous drivers and those who like to tailgate small cars very closely.

  13. If family members make you mad get away from them. Extricate yourself from those situations where people enrage you. You’ll feel better. You’ll look better. You’ll have a better life and shit like this will happen.

  14. Telling people not to drink and drive is kinda dumb in my opinion. When you’re drunk as a skunk you’re not thinking clearly to begin with. You think you’re ok or you think you’re invincible and nothing can happen to you. It’s the sober, or way less drunk, people around them that should be taking the person’s keys away and calling them a cab/Uber/designated driver or whatever. I’ve been around people far too many times when they were drunk and think that they’re fine only to have them fall over and damage/break things. Fortunately these people and I don’t have cars so I never had to deal with the drunk driving problem. They still did some damage though. Fortunately those people are not in my life anymore and I choose to surround myself with people who choose healthy ways of dealing with day to day problems.

Stories like this makes me wonder why Tim Hortons doesn’t, at least openly, support anti drunk driving charities. I know that they have their “Sending under privileged kids to camp” thing going on because it looks better. Don’t get me wrong Sending kids to camp is an excellent charity. We need more charities like it. But Drunk driving is how Tim Horton himself died. My Dad told me the story: He was still living in Toronto when he was playing for the Buffalo Sabres. After a game in Buffalo he drove home. I’m guessing they lost because he was driving drunk. He drifted off the highway and drove himself into an overpass just outside Chatham Ontario Killing himself instantly.

  15. Johnny left behind 3 kids. His wife told the world in her eulogy that she was 9 weeks pregnant with their 3rd child. Being a Calgary Flames fan, it hurt when he left Calgary. Too many people make the wrong choice and drink and drive. I personally have lost many friends to impaired driving.

  16. This still hurts. Still feels fresh. Absolutely avoidable and 20 years is not enough, as these families are serving a life sentence without their loved ones.

  17. This is so tragic and the pain is still stinging us all. Johnny leaves behind a loving family, friends, teammates and three kids not two and a grieving wife. Matty leaves behind similar except 1 kid. All 4 kids will not know their dad. The argument that Higgins failed the sobriety test due to surgery on his knee doesn't hold water – then why was he driving at all. This is so horrible.

  18. What about all the other people that die and crashes? Just because this is hockey players. I guess their lives are worth more than anyone else's. That judge should not be a judge.

  19. This driver had the nerve to be "annoyed" by the fact that he had to be held until Thursday. Well that's too bad. He hit and KILLED two brothers. He took away their lives by his actions. His impatience destroyed the lives of two families.
