The Oilers lost more than the result on Monday night at Nationwide Arena, falling 6-1 to the Blue Jackets to suffer their fourth straight defeat in Columbus while losing Connor McDavid to a lower-body injury early in the first period.
Mattias Ekholm broke up the shutout in the last minute on the power play, but the Blue Jackets scored six straight goals following the departure of the Oilers captain early in the opening frame, who left with a lower-body injury he sustained falling into the boards on a missed tripping penalty during the opening shift.

I'm surprised the oilers have a website.
They can't string 3 W's together to save their life.
Man what a terrible game, I shut it off after the 1st half on the 1st period!
I genuinely cannot believe people defend stan bowman and his picks for the oilers still this team is fucking terrible compared to last years team.
2:40 "They are fast, they are speedy, they are young …" đź
"… Give it to us raw and wriggling, you keep nasty chips" đ
There are certainly some things to be concerned about, but emotions with this teams are like riding a rollercoaster… It's like in the last playoffs… After two wins in a row, the Oilers were the best team ever, and after two straight losses, it was a crappy amateur team… We should keep our heads colder.
That said, I miss some of last year's youngest players. They could provide a great energy to the team when it is needed the most.
I'm seriously starting to become convinced we got cursed after they hired Stan Bowman – HE'S BAD JUJU
No creativity. Reliance on McDavid. You're right about that, the team has mostly come to rely to him being on the ice and driving the play, and the next few games will be the time to see if they can rally and adapt or if they slump into more losses. I'm hopeful it will be an opportunity for other players to step up and drive it. Fingers crossed still!
You read my mind bro.
Edmonton still has massive potential.
I curious to see how they do without 97. Im optimistic i think they will do good
The lack of solid depth is the main problem at the moment. Mcdavid and draisaitl can't pull a team to a cup.
The oilers have 22 goals in 10 games and 35 goals against. The sharks have more goals… The oilers have the lowest goals per game in the league.
I donât blame Holland as much as you do. Knoblach controls who gets to play so if he chooses to play Desharnais over Broberg it is not on Holland. Broberg was given the 6th spot multiple years and Desharnais beat him each time. You made the point that we need toughness, Desharnais brought that, hits, blocking and just being that type of player. I read the stories that Holland was told to sign those two players but who knows what Brobergâs agent was saying behind closed doors. We know Broberg expressed frustration throughout the last couple seasons so I think the door was already closed. Fans have a tendency to blame and that was gut reaction too. Blame Holland, but Holland also brought in these intangibles the last couple seasons and got the ship going the right way. Kostin, Kane signing, Eckholm trade to name a few. Bowman needs to do that âtalk to the playersâ thing.
Something no one else mentions also is CBJ has been playing without their own Captain, Boone Jenner. A good player in his own right.
What do y'all think about the new roster? Do you think the changes have weakend the team overall? Or do they only need more time to get used to each other?
Canucks fan here I want a rematch series with edmonton
I'd trade Derek Ryan and Corey Perry 4 cap space and bring in a younger player
I wouldnât say youâre less entertaining than Steven Dangle you both are entertaining in different ways. I definitely love how you go into advance analytics and itâs nice listening to your objective feedback regarding the games. Youâre super positive and itâs great to hear you also compliment the other team. Steve Dangle at times makes itâs pretty obvious heâs playing things up so your more natural and authentic reactions are very much appreciated.
Steve Dangleâs busy with his own podcast which I think takes away from his more one-on-one content. Personally I think your engagement with the fans and the more relaxed demeanor makes you a genuinely entertaining content creator. Youâre a lot like The Hockey Guy whoâs a very objective, welcoming, knowledgeable guy who clearly has a love from hockey that a fan of any sport can find and enjoy. Even though youâre an Oilers context creator your content is just so hockey first and less fan fanatics that it feels like you cultivated a fanbase that welcomes fans from everywhere. Keep up the good work.
Austin > Steve dangler . Not even close: the guy yells at everything itâs annoying
I thought I heard broberg wanted away from Edmonton? Which would make sense why he accepted the deal he did. 2.5mill would be the maximum we should have offered.
Nothing really to be concerned. yeah there are some obvious things that need to be addressed but itâs only 10 games into the season. We gotta chill and let them figure things out. I know they can and they will.
A little insight on my experience with ankle injuries. I completely ruptured my ATFL and CFL ligaments in my left ankle. Basically blew out the entire left side on my ankle. I was able to walk for about 15 minutes without a limp immediately after. McDavid being able to leave the ice on his own power and put some weight on it isnât indicative of the level of injury. I had surgery in May to fix those ligaments and Iâm still in physio for it in October.
This is just my experience. I in no way am saying this is what happened to McDavid as we donât know anything yet. Hope heâs going to be back soon.
Dangle is cringy , can't handle that voice and his bias doesn't allow for honesty , you tell it how it is and it's refreshing . Oilers are wildly inconsistent , almost swept in the cup final then come 1 goal shy of winning it đ€· This is just what they are
