Exciting news
Not so concerned about Willy but Backy better produce. Tough to have this mentality with a Caps legend that was integral to the franchise, Ovi’s career, the Cup, etc. But my patience has long worn thin with him. Don’t dip your toes in the water when it comes to playing in the NHL, especially when you’re getting paid $9M+
Obviously, he’ll have a grace period to get up to speed. But it’s put up or shut up time now. Everyone knows the organization would’ve been better off if he retired last summer, allowing BMac to use his huge cap hit a lot more efficiently. But it was his decision to give it another go, so now it’s his time to prove it was the right decision.
Never expecting $9M+ levels of production out of Backy at this stage of his career, but if he’s not at least putting up $6M+ levels of production like he was before the hip injury, I can’t help but feel angry and disappointed with him, even after all he’s done. We still have a chance to win another cup in the Ovi era and it would really suck if his contract holds us back from that.
