Zach Dean Check to the Head – Hockey Canada IIHF World Juniors

Game 1 for Canada was a shocker as Team Canada would lose to Team Czechia. The turning point in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship game was when Zach Dean took a 5 minute major and match penalty for checking to the head. This lead to a 2 goal PP and swung the momentum for Czechia who would never look back.

Our Heavy Hockey player safety analyst takes a look at the controversial hit and tells it exactly the way he sees it. You might not like it. Let us know your thoughts.

  1. Thanks for the analysis. I think i agree with your view on this hit. Hits should never be banned in hockey, but it is every players' responsibility to keep it clean and not kill each other. If they can't do that, they should get off the ice.

  2. Czech player should’ve shot the puck right and turned left as he clearly saw his opponent approaching. Could have easily avoided the hit. Canada will regain 🇨🇦

  3. Yeah it's soft for a 5+game though for sure. Double minor easy, but usually 5 is reserved for instances where intent and severity is evident. And the Czech player went into the hit too. Feels kinda soft. Definitely not something to encourage sure. But a major and game? Nah

  4. The czechs doing what they are best at. Crying after a clean hit! Changing your countries name does not stop a history of crying whenever they get hit!
It's hockey and that was a good clean and SAFE hit. Unless you are czechian, or czelazian or czeck republik or whatever they call themselves this week!
