The only way the Leafs could trade for and keep Meier is if Tavares would leave before his contract is up. Trading, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Knies or Robertson or Holmberg would be disastrous for the organization.
the qualifying offer of 10,000,000 only happens if a team signs him to a 1 year deal… if he signs for 2+ years the offer can drop below 10mill…
with that being said… leafs should pursue him 100% and what to offer?
i would offer up a conditional 1st, pierre engvull, and topi niemla
condition on the 1st pick is that if toronto makes the conference finals this year, that 2023rd 1st pick goes to san jose… if they fail to reach the conf finals then the 1st rounder gets moved to 2024… done deal
I want him in New Jersey really
Goodbye Robertson, Niemela, Kerfoot, (Joey) Anderson, 1st round Pick then.
For years, Toronto has had the same problem the Canucks have – their D isn't good enough. Sure, it's better than the Canucks, but that's not saying very much. It's good enough for the regular season, but once they hit the playoffs, they lean heavily on one guy and he's a top pairing D-man, but he's not an elite top-pairing D man.

Lol not happening
The Leafs do not need more offense, obviously, they lack defense and grit. They need a back end defender like Klingberg or Maata, and a forward like Filigno or Bertuzzi. More grit less "style". The roster they have right now won't win a Cup, and let's be honest, hasn't even won them a playoff round.
The funny thing about Toronto rumors s they always end the same. They don't have any cap space now and in the near future. No one is taking discounts for Toronto if they can help it. Any Toronto moves will have to require a salary dump somewhere.
Mock trade that makes zero sense, just like this video:
To Leafs: Timo Meier
Kevin Labanc (50% retained)
To Sharks: 2023 1st rd
2023 3rd rd
William Nylander
Alexander Kerfoot
I like the different style Meier would bring but I think a deal for him this year costs a combination of 1st picks and for sure knies….only way it makes sense to give up what it takes to get him isif you sufnhim long-term and trade Nylander to re coup some picks prospects…wud be adding him to add like I said different style player between him and Nylander
At 50% retention the leafs would need 3$mil in cap space to rent him. They can't resign him.
Sorry, this guy makes no sense to me.
I'd rather go for three improvements of lesser flash, preferably with playoff pedigree.. A hard North/South winger on the second line, a strong upgrade on the third line like O'Reilly and yes, a heavy hitting D Man.
I don't believe one move gets it done, they need 2-3 moves that are solo shot HRs rather than one grad slam. It will still require prospects and creativity. Their depth lines need to pose some problems for the other teams instead of being exclusively defensive. They need to stretch other teams assignments out.
Thats funny leaf need sand paper tough players. A perfect fit is Ryan Reaves or Max Domi if we get another star to go with the core the leafs will be screwed and be out first round. Don't believe lets ask the Bruins shell we . So upset I mean we all seen what Ben done to Matthew's in Dallas nobody from Toronto done any thing to help. So you tell me we need another star. All Jokers I needed a good laugh thank you
Toronto doesn't have the assets. Period.
Everybody is rumored to be traded to leefs 😅🤣🤣 they can't even make past 1st round
