This just doesn’t sound good for Vrana right now. I had high hopes for him too.

  2. Hellberg hasn’t been good enough to warrant giving up on Neddy, who is proving he still has it in the AHL. Considering how bad Husso and Hellberg have both been lately (stat-wise), hopefully they treat this as a sign to fix the defensive systems.

I couldn’t finish the article. Yes of course they would bring him back if he was lighting it up down there, it’s literally the only reason he didn’t come straight back to the team. He’s a game changing talent and frankly his lack of offense in the ahl feels more like a coaching issue to me. I’m having a very difficult time believing that his talent disappeared into thin air.

Is this guy getting paid to write articles like that? Has he even left his couch in Ann Arbor to go watch them play? It doesn’t sound like it. He’s repeating the dribble spewed by every other hockey “journalist”

Wings haven’t giving up on him. Two months of not skating and recovering from whatever he was on puts a heavy toll on the body. The fact that he’s in the AHL is an indicator he just needs to catch up to speed with conditioning. This writers take is garbage

Pretty sad people on this sub can’t have disagreement without resorting to insulting journalists that have been covering the team since before many of you were even born.

People are reading way too much into Vrana being waived. He obviously went through a lot in the last few months. The goal of the organization is likely to provide him some consistent playing time and build confidence. He wouldn’t be playing in the AHL if Stevie didn’t think there was a way to get him back into the Wings lineup.

    > Even if Vrana were lighting it up in Grand Rapids, would the Red Wings bring him back?

Seems like such an insane thing to say

Vrana is going to stay down until at least the trade deadline. Ned probably waived this week for Zadina.

It’s weird to see Ansar write this when he’s got pretty good access to the front office. Unless he knows something we don’t, this hasn’t been the energy that Stevie or Lalonde have put out about Vrana at all – although he’s only got one quote in the whole article. It feels likely that they’ve been so tight-lipped that he’s just speculating, and speculating poorly.

This is a cooked take from Ansar. Helene just released the same article but basically said he isn’t producing which is true. Larry Murphy had pretty much the same take on Friday.

Vrana is a top line scorer that is struggling in the AHL and clearly needs more time to get his game back. Probably as simple as that.

  12. If you take the humane side out of it, Vrana is sort of starting over. In terms of market value and what he can offer the team. If he had value we’d of traded him and ate salary or a team would have claimed him and figured out how to make the cap work. He is an example that the 32 NHL teams do not value players remotely the same as fanbases do.

Honestly, it was the best move for the team to be able to keep him though. We’d of lost him for nothing or got a negligible asset in return trading him. Now he gets to play consistency and rebuild himself. Next year we may get him back at “full strength.” I really don’t expect anything else from him in terms of helping the NHL team this year – and that’s fine. From a team and humane standpoint, he needs to tackle this challenge head on and come out ahead.

Hopefully we find something to do with him next season. The last thing we want to do is buy him out with only 1 year left on his deal and his dead cap hit weighing against us as we exit the rebuild. My fingers are crossed he’ll make the team and bolster the middle 6.

We’ll definitely keep Ned. But honestly, that’s sort of irrelevant. Husso is the guy going forward and whatever of our three NHL goalies is the odd duck out isn’t going to set the world on fire in a trade.

Long story short. Vrana, Ned, and Hellberg are all expendable at this point and not a part of the team’s future. Would absolutely love to see Ned bounce back and get us a good draft pick at deadline, and I think we’d all love to see Vrana bounce back for his own sake and the team’s. Hoping for the best for all three of these guys.

Ned shouldnt be given up on. He has played well in the AHL and I dont see how Hellburgs played better than he has at the NHL level this season. The team needs to play better in front of them

Ned probably gets the full conditioning stint, he gets a few games in a busy January and February and we see how it goes.

Vrana’s probably going to be in GR until he gets into game shape and rediscovers his scoring touch. The Wings have been patient with him this year but I could see them moving on in the offseason if he isn’t back on track.

I watched the griffins play Saturday, granted it was a pretty dry game, but unfortunately I have to report that Vrana was indistinguishable from any other player.

Vrana has already hit the ahl, he’s there until they want him back he isn’t a bother now. Ned gets a couple games coming of his rehab stint and if he’s bad he’s getting waived it’s simple as that.
