The power play is full of elite shooters and danglers but the defence are always so caught up with Ovechkin they focus on him, or they focus on those other players and leave him open.
He’s also constantly making call outs, you can see it if you watch him play. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he made call outs in Russian either making him even more unpredictable to the opponents.
He is also really good at identifying when it’s a good time to shoot watching for the goalie to lose track of him and for the defence to get too far from him so he can receive a one time pass when he puts his stick in the air which is his signal.
There is no other mind like his on the power play, and it’s the reason he is so successful
