When that happened to Tuukka a few years ago the other team scored and the refs never blew the whistle.
My guess is also cause Wild didn't have full control had they had control of puck i think they wouldn't have blown it
Maybe its time to get some quality equipment. This happens way to often.

IIHF & NHL: The only piece of goalie gear that can stop play is the mask. Play is stopped when a goaltender loses his mask, as long as his team has control of the puck or if there’s no “immediate and impending scoring opportunity” for the opposing team (Rule 9.6)… I agree with the ruling. The only time I've had play called dead, other then losing or breaking my mask, was when my neck guard broke in half by a shot. Neck guards are an optional piece. Refs explanation for calling the play dead was because the sharp broken edges near my neck area.
