Do we struggle to convert chances? Yes.

Do we not get guys to the front of the net? Yes.

    Is that by design? Yes.

Our first priority is not giving up anything, and we’re pretty darn good at it. I think when Rod came up with this plan, he thought we’d score more that we have, but that doesn’t make it a bad plan.

But the bottom line is that you can’t have the best team defense in the league without giving up some offense. I’m our specific case, I think what we give up is that netfront presence. We don’t get the volume of tips and rebounds that other teams get.

Our “high forward” system kinda forces guys away from the net. We could probably score more if we sent three guys deep all the time, but we wouldn’t be able to activate the D like we do, and we’d be much worse in transition.

It’s a give-and-take, but I think it’s time we accept that we’re a defense-first club and we’re gonna struggle to score at times.

That’s all thanks to our lord and savior, Jaccob Slavin, the defensive god.

What does this chart mean? I see Boston and Carolina in blue (cold) and yet…they’re the two best teams. It’s almost like this chart is the baby of Who and Gives a shit…

I hear what you’re saying and I love the team defense. But this has little to do with converting scoring chances and lack of power play success.

However, we are only 4th in goals against, which tells me our goaltending has been below average.
