Don’t feel qualified enough to answer your first question, but Jack indicated in a recent interview that we will likely be seeing Luke in the NHL this season

More than likely we will see Luke at the end of this years Michigan team when the season ends. Their coach said he would bet his house on it and like the person below me said Jack said we will likely see him this year. As far as Nemec. It is possible depending where we are at end of season and he gets a few games, otherwise I’d expect him to try at camp. Future does look bright though on the backend

Adjusting is the word that describes him the best right now. He’ll get there. We have the luxury of time now.

I don’t think we will see nemec this year and i think he’ll spend most of next year in the minors. We might see him after trade deadline next year when roster limits are removed but i cant see him getting a tryout after this deadline like we’ve seen in the past with other rookies. Imo the only way he makes the team after training camp is if he has a monster offseason. Or if severson doesn’t resign and management forces him into a sheltered 3rd pairing role.

He hasn’t been bad, but I wanted Cooley at the time and that hasn’t changed. I knew that D was more of a need than center, but I just felt like Cooley was way more of a sure thing. Plus, there is no reason Cooley can’t play wing and/or he would make a huge trade chip. I just felt like he was a better asset than Nemec.

With Marino coming back soon, I doubt we Nemec. Okhotiuk or Bahl will most likely get sent back down. The Devils may give Nemec a game in the even another injury(s) occurs again. It all depends if it’s before Luke’s season in Michigan ends.
As for Luke, he’s coming after his season is done. I can see him getting paired with Severson and Smith being the 7th D.

Nemec looks like he is still working on adjusting but a lot like Jack’s first year you can see flashes of brilliance. Nemec may get a couple games at season end depending on where we are in the standings.
Luke is coming as soon as michigans season is over. His defense still is far from perfect but offensively he is more then NHL ready.

Before the WJC, he was 2nd on the team in scoring for dmen and 2nd of any player in +/-. He is scoring at nearly a half point a game. I haven’t watched him with Utica, but when I saw him at the WJC, he is a very aggressive, very offensive dman. Always attacking and joining the rush. All this at 18 years old. I believe he is doing very well, and better as the season goes on

He’s doing pretty well. But because we’re already obligated to Luke, and have some depth at D right now on top of that, and possibly going to make the playoffs, we might not see Nemec at all this season. If we fall apart and are going to fall out of contention then I imagine we’d see him get a few games just to see where he’s at.
