Let’s be honest, Crosby had Marc Andre fluery in net and Letang as his 1d

Mcdavid has neither of those things.

  2. tritongamez

I think he’s a pretty good leader/captain, I think it’s unfair to compare McDrai to Crosby as he was on quite a bit better teams.

  3. You need other pieces to be at least average. Lets be honest the Oilers depth has been abysmal from their goalies to their d to their offensive depth.

  4. shmoove_cwiminal

Such a dumb take. Pens were a way more well-rounded team.

  5. Do I agree? No, I can’t agree with stupid takes.

  6. almostthere69420

Clearly this guy never seen the goal mcdavid just scored a minute ago lol

  7. LemmySixx

MAF and Letang >>>> whoever has been in net the whole McDavid era and Nurse

This is right up there with that tweet saying Skinner should miss the birth of his child because they Oilers need him

  8. Putthebunnyback

Crosby’s best talent has always been that he made those around him better. He’s an uncanny passer. There are better goal scorers out there, but not many passers.

  9. nostrils_on_the_bus

Motherfucker, Crosby, Ovie, McKinnon all had a full team with massive depth when they won their cups. McD and Drai are alone out there with no goaltending.

Edit: forgot to mention Stammer and Toews too.

  10. TurtlesInTheSun

It’s iffy. Maybe he should be a better leader, but Crosbys team was way better than mcdavids current team

  11. Horrible take. Those Pens teams were so much better than any oilers teams.

also, just because you are good at hockey doesnt mean you should be a good leader. Which sure maybe he shouldn’t be Captain. but i dont think they are losing because “McDavid isnt leading good enough”

    >nothing from their 8 years suggests they know how to lead a team.

    ffs

  13. AWokenBeetle

Steve Yzerman was in the league for 14 years before he won a Stanley Cup, people need to chill

  14. mrdreadie

Defense wins championships. No elite d-man (or even a true top pairing player) and zero in net means no Lord Stanley.

  15. Kitchen-Activity-760

I think hockey is just that much of a team game.. it’s more of a failure on the management who refuse to bring in other players. Have you seen their depth? He can’t be out there for 60 mins.. but to suggest “insert team here” wouldn’t want him, you’re crazy

  16. BaephBush

McDavid and Draisaitl are not responsible for the goaltending or the D. Saying this is a “team leader” issue is ridiculous.

  17. Moosen2997

This team went to the Western Conference finals with a 40yr old goaltender and a D core made up of mostly 3rd pairing defensemen. Like over the last couple of years, guys have come to Edmonton and played better than they did on their previous teams. Hyman, Kane, Ceci, Barrie, Kostin, etc. Not everyone of course, but it’s not like Edmonton is a career graveyard like it used to be. Is McDavid as good of a leader as Crosby? No, but I don’t think anyone in the show is. Is McDavid still a competent leader who elevates those around him? Yes and same goes for Drai.

  18. dancehalldeus

Anyone who says this is either too young or too stupid to know just how deep the Penguins were in 2009. Ridiculous to suggest the greatest point producer in 30 years is bringing down or ‘not elevating’ his team at all.

  19. No. His team blows. Dude could be the greatest leader in the history of sports and it wouldn’t matter.

  20. superstarrr99

Is he a leader, though? Being good doesn’t make you a leader. Not saying he isn’t a leader, I’m not in the room…but is he?

  21. Latter-Score-8937

McDavid mentally is no where near Crosby. Too selfish, not a leader and needs maturity.

  22. Ijerkoffhorses

There are no two players in the league you could swap them for and expect better results. Simple as that.

  23. We just gonna conveniently forget that McDrai dragged them to a conference final last year?

  24. chukporkka

Idk what more he could do for that team. Leon too. The problem is the rest of the team is back to being garbage, front office has hurt them by giving out bad contracts to other members of the team and the ownership has been bad. Pittsburgh never had this problem bc they have done very well at building a team around Crosby and Malkin throughout the years. The oilers have not

  25. SuspiciousCobbbler

Arguments online about leadership skills is dumb as hell to me. None of us have any idea what what they are actually like

  26. Smart-Drawer8809

Yeah mcdavid had fucking jesse, lucic, ty rattie and fucking pat maroon and atrocious management. Guy would have to be kratos to carry the shit ass teams he’s had

  27. Solidmarsh

No ones a leader/winner till they win. Coulda said they same about Mackinnon till last year

  28. Educational_Yam7043

Hockey fans trying to not mention crosby or ovechkin. Challenge impossible.

  29. SuddenlyChineseFood

    Defense wins championships.

McDrai don’t contribute enough to 5v5 defense and they haven’t built a defense that can make up for that.

  30. KimJongPewnTang

Truth be told, no one knows what the fuck goes on beyond closed doors. Every redditor can makes their best guess and call it truth. But if the team was finishing 1st in the pacific every year and he was truly a terrible leader then absolutely no one would be talking about this. Leadership isn’t some potion that wills you to win another 20 games each season, it only gets you so far.

  31. Rehberkintosh

He’s a hockey player not a wizard. He can’t just cast a spell to make everyone else on the team better than they are.

  32. Guy_Le_Man

I mean, if edmontons defence/goalies/depth forwards hadn’t been a complete shitshow the whole time they’ve been there might help.

  33. OLPopsAdelphia

To be fair, Edmonton placed the “C” on his chest before he even had the chance to lace up.

I see the McDavid issue through the lens of a parent: Sometime a kid just needs the chance to be a kid.

I don’t feel McDavid ever had the chance to showcase as an ordinary player.

  34. Alone-Community6899

McDavid is so far a version of Marcel Dionne.

  35. DarthFarris

McDavid’s career will die in Edmonton. He needs to get to a better market.
