Obviously Charron knows more than me, but I've always thought the rule was also to prevent cutting goalies when they go down.
I'm not sure what else Määttä could have done here, just let McMann score? It didn't go off of his stick or anything, he was skating in to defend McMann, he just got a bad bounce. The thing with the kicking / deflection rule is that wherever we draw the line, there's going to be someone that's unhappy. You can't reliably officiate intent, so you'd have to do something with direction of the puck? I'm not sure. I'm personally okay with the rule as it is, but I can understand people not agreeing with it.
Also Määttä hasn't even been here for a full year, and has been one of our better defenders, it's really funny that you forgot him lol.

Honestly referees have been a problem this year….league wide…..if they miss brutal calls they should be fined….it’s simple, they aren’t doing their job properly, then they shouldn’t be paid to do so!
No kicking goals allowed, thank you very much. Do we really want soccer on ice? I already have a hard enough time with the angling of the skate, deflection goals.
Should we also allow goals to be batted in? Because batting the puck is also allowed. Bat the puck off the opposing players face and into the net. Hey, good goal!! Now we have handball on ice.

Always love seeing how far Leafs fans are willing to move the goalposts in order to benefit themselves.
First, interference calls shouldn't be called in the playoffs. Then, hand passes should be allowed. Now, goals from kicks should be allowed.

The "no kicking" rule is kinds dumb IMO. Especially cause, as a hypothetical scenario, if a player kicked the puck near the opposing net, and the Defensive player accidentally shoots it right in, it would likely get called off cause it was kicked initially. And if it didn't, then how is that any different than it bouncing off of a defensive player and in? How does that make any sense?

Keep McMann in the lineup PLEASE KEEP HIM IN THE LINEUP! he has great situational awareness and isn't afraid to take it to the net or shoot from further away. He put up some great passes and had some great shots. KEEP HIM IN!

The only difference is vs the Devils it happened against the Leafs and this was for the Leafs. Steve's whining about officiating is getting very old.
If the puck was pushed by someone’s glove then off a opposing players skate and into the net would it be goal or no goal?

You got right to the heart of the problem with Dubas choices. Because you have 5 highly paid players, you struggle to put together a supporting cast around them. If your high dollar players don’t play like high dollar players, you probably lose.
