  1. Happy about this. It's balance between regular season Guentzel and playoff Guentzel. For regular season, it's overpaid. For playoffs, it's underpaid. By the time his contract expires, guys like Kessel, Hornqvist, Brassard will be gone and past their prime.

Super excited about the new Shotgun Jake (just kidding)

  2. BTW, Guentzel only has one Stanley Cup…from 2017. He never played in 2016. Appreciate the praise for him though 😉

  3. If he becomes more consistent and plays with Sid he can easily be a 30+ goal scorer and 60-70 point guy plus you already know he gets it done in the playoffs. I have no problem with this contract, kid has earned it as much as Nylander has at the very least

  4. Considering that guentzle has over a point a game in his 42 playoff appearances I think this is a great contract! And this season he is really becoming a consistent player that the Penguins can depend on all year round.

  5. I've lived in Pittsburgh my entire life and I couldn't tel you the number of titles the pirates have won, I know they have won at least a few.. I'd gladly trade them for a basketball team

  6. Pittsburgh adoptee the “City of Champions” moniker in 1979 after the Steelers won their 4th super bowl and the Buccos won their fifth pennant. We’ve used it ever since, even though the 80s weren’t great.

  7. Congrats to Jake! Well-deserved for the amount of talent and scoring touch he brings to the table. This is a good signing by the Pens!

  8. Surprisingly the Pirates have 5 World Series Championships. Granted the last one was in 79.

  9. Great deal for Pittsburgh. He has the same regular season ppg as Nylander (0.72 for jake vs 0.71) and his ppg is over 1 in the playoffs. Plus he is a winger that plays well on Sid’s wing. Those are surprisingly hard to find.

  10. If you look at the playoffs last year, most of the team disappeared except for Guentzel and Crosby. I think playoff stats should count for alot and he has them. I would rather pay Guentzel than someone who does alot better in the regular season then disappears in the playoffs.

  11. I’m really psyched about this, great kid and a great deal, all without the Toronto/Nylander level bs.

  12. "City of Champions… and the pirates." So true 😂. I saw a thing in 2009 it showed a super bowl ring for the Steelers, a Stanley Cup ring for the Penguins, and an onion ring for the pirates.

  13. Being in Pennsylvania and knowing Pittsburgh fans, your description of the colors of Pittsburgh teams will draw the ire of Pittsburgh fans. "Black and YELLOW"….. to them it's BLACK AND GOLD! I hear about this frequently from Steeler fans that I know. Black and yellow is the description that I use when I want to mess with them a little bit. Just don't remind them that the Steeler theme song is "The Pittsburgh Steeler POLKA" …. Look it up, it's hilarious! POLKA, POLKA, POLKA! and I won't mention that they lost to MY RAIDERS, the worst team in football.

  14. This is a good deal or Pittsburgh. They always seem to be able to sign their good players for an excellent value. Crosby for 8.7 a year is an absolute steal. Crosby could have been greedy and gotten way more but he wanted to build a winning team around him and win championships, and because of this the Pens won 3 cups. I think Guentzel is a better player than Nylander and to get him for about 1 million less than Nylander is excellent value.

  15. this is an example of how the nylander deal should have gone. no bullshit no zillion dollar bonus program hes shown he can hang with the big boys has hardware to show for it. one these two guys got way overpaid

  16. I love your videos and analysis on stuff like this! Your details on contracts, the trends.. its awesome!

  17. Better ppg than nylander, just starting to show his regular season ability and is a beast when it counts getting him for 6 is a great deal with non of the fuss of nylander

  18. Lol, hey watch what you say about the Bucs!! At least they've won in my lifetime, ('60, '71, and ''79). I've rooted for them since late in the '69 season and I have no plans to change that, in spite of management not wanting to spend money.

  19. I would take Guentzel over Nylander without hesitation. Who has the most playoff goals over the entire last two post seasons? No it’s not Ovechkin. It’s Jake. Led the league in playoff goals his rookie season and was a goal or two behind Ovi last post season having played 2 less rounds. Dude is very important to the Pens, he basically scored his way through the 2017 playoffs and propelled the offense all the way to a second straight Cup. Great job by Rutherford to get that deal done

  20. uhhhh actually the pirates used to be a great team bud. They've been champions multiple times……just…ya know……not recently. ALSO Guentzel only has one ring. He was not with the team in 2016. But I think he's getting the contract based off of his playoff performances in back-to-back years.
