I liked his game last night, played physical and had a few nice plays.

Unrelated but Noah Dobson’s development skyrocketed in the last two years and he became a 1D. We need that to happen with one of our D prospects so bad

  3. Thanks for posting these!! Such a great resource

    A few takeaways from this
I liked the brief shifts with 14 and 22, there was about 7 times in the video when Slaf was in a great position to receive the puck for a dangerous shot but his teammates just didn’t have the skill or vision to get it to him.

He’s starting to use his big frame and win more battles, he just needs to become a little more explosive

He should shoot more, he’s always looking pass which is typical for a young player but getting the puck on net is always a good play

I still see hesitation on his game, what’s normal for an 18yo. As soon as he gets more assertive, he’ll start finishing hits, taking off on the rush or pushing guys around the net.

Otoh is easy to see how we has a much better awareness os the game compared to the beginning of the season. I still feel he sometimes crosses the lines of other players, but feeling more comfortable will help him to find his place.

Would like to see a bit more of flashes tough. I noticed one strong tape to tape pass and one good shot. Hope it comes with confidence and it’s not the case of a guy trying to be too defensive and hiding the offensive part of his game.

  6. i know lot of fans only care about stats and ice-time, but this time of the season is Slaf “eating his vegetables”: doing unsexy but invaluable work: learning to play without the puck and learning to make quick, sound decisions with the puck.

like MSL said: you have to know how to play *the* game before you start playing *your* game. Slaf is learning the game: the flow, the fabric, the strengths and weaknesses.

so numbers aside, the quality of his play is trending right. he has simplified a lot of things, tries much less low-percentage plays. He’s coming around to achieve all the basic fundamentals. Once he is comfortable playing *the* game, then he can start playing *his* game on top of it.

but you can only get there with games upon games of thankless grind to get those xp points.

  7. Great YouTube channel for Slaficionados like me 😀
