  1. Just a random thought (or observation) about roster construction. We all know Sullivan and Hextall are all about call-ups/bottom six guys being PK specialists above all else. So I was looking at Seattle.

Seattle is 31st on the PK. That's not good. But I think it's somewhat telling they're still racking up wins despite a bad PK and mediocre goaltending. Their bottom six can hurt you on the scoreboard every time they're out there. There's a lot more to it than that, obviously. But it's not nothing, I don't think.

And I also realize +/- is kind of a wishy-washy stat. It's arguable what you can actually glean from it. But Daniel Sprong is +16, with 27 points, on Seattle's 4th line. That's a better +/- than the entire Pens roster combined. And Sprong's 27 points are only 6 less the the entire 4th line combined.

And that's not an attempt to retroactively make Sprong into the new Simon Despres. But… those are striking stats, compared to all the money Hextall has tied up in the Pens bottom six. Sprong's getting $750,000. It just makes me think What the heck is Hextall doing? What are they thinking in regard to their bottom six?
