Just to get in front of some narratives: Gru played fine. The defense played fine. We didn’t lose because we’re at home. We didn’t lose because we pulled the goalie. We lost because the Lightning are a good team and we didn’t get enough scoring.

  2. DeadlyRedCube

    I don’t understand this team

Jones gives up 5 goals, we win by 3

Gru gives up two goals, we lose by 3

  3. BlackSnowMarine

ON THE ROAD AGAIN. START ANOTHER WIN STREAK.

Flood CPA with holy water until further notice.

  4. at least we don’t have to see any kraken jerseys in the “stamkos gets 500” highlights

    let’s bounce back tomorrow boys

  5. surfingeagles

Gru played great but couldn’t get out of their zone. Also, why would you pull Gru when the offense is not set up?

  6. This teams ability to just forget how to play offense at home is honestly impressive. If we make the playoffs making it as a lower seed might be better lol.

    My 3 takeaways

    1. We need to clean up our passes and D zone break outs. Way too many soft passes led to turnovers and risky chances for TBL

    2. The dump and chase doesn’t work on a team that plays their positions so solidly and takes the walls. We could hardly effectively use the point all night

    3. We need to slow it down and play our game, it opened so hectic. We need to figure out how to handle a strong forecheck… see point 1.

  8. Stonetoothed

Damn it was a nice run, had to end sometime, but this was a 2-1 loss to a great team nothing to get down about. Ignore the ENG

  9. TripleBicepsBumber

Man 4 to 1 is really misleading for how close this game actually was. Thank you for your hard work Gru, idk why this team struggles so hard with Tampa Bay but it is frustrating.

big fan of your team love the city Seattle. What do you think is the biggest difference between this year and last year. Also interested wether y’all were a fan of hockey before or just after Seattle got a team

  11. SurfinBuds

Meh. About what I expected honestly. The boys are tired and the Bolts are one of the best teams in the league. This loss just isn’t that big of a deal.

  12. tateand99

Seriously need to look into wearing the away whites at home.

  13. anthkraken

    Worst game of the season.

    Easily. Just a pathetic effort.

  14. Go_Hawks12

All good things must come to an end. Tampa is a perennial contender for a reason. Only looked close because of goal tending. Our 4 games vs Tampa, we’ve scored 4 total goals. We’re onto Edmonton.

  15. hawkfan78

NHL schedule makers. “We’re going to send you on the road for 7, give you one day off when you fly back from the east coast, follow up with an afternoon game against a tough team, then make you hop on a flight afterwards for a game in Edmonton.” 👍

So glad they had that success in the road because these two games are brutal scheduling.

  16. dystopianr

Well so far we have gone on a 6 game, 7 game, and 8 game win streak this season for historic firsts. This just allows us to start our 9 game streak

I wanted to see more puck on the net today. After a long road trip you can’t expect to out finesse a good team like Tampa .

Schedule is so weird. Why 1 home game and then back on the road? Don’t blame them for dropping this one. Jet lag is real especially to and from Seattle. Think they have longest distance traveled something like that. Tampa and Jon Cooper is also like the worst match-up for this to happen with. Tampas game execution is usually like clockwork and this game was no exception.

  19. czar_kazem

Early afternoon home game against a great team after a seven game road trip and a four game week? Yeah, not terribly surprising it’ll fall flat. Back at it tomorrow

  20. SiccSemperTyrannis

Another game where Grubauer plays well but takes the L because the team in front of him doesn’t produce at the same level as we’re used to.

Credit to Tampa because I thought they played a fantastic game and were very strong defensively. Seattle didn’t have many legit scoring chances and that’s why they didn’t win.

It’s fascinating how much better they are on the road than at home.

That said, this team has still had a fantastic 1st half of the season and you can’t win them all. On to a really important divisional 4 point game tomorrow in Edmonton. Hopefully the extra rest from this being an early afternoon game will help them have energy tomorrow.

  21. Even with the bad performance, we only lost 2-1. I’m not counting the two empty netters lol

  22. Antilock049

Hakstol showing why he’s not really the reason for their success.

Pulls Gru when vasi had the puck.

    Lmao

  23. AnimousVox

The 1st was definitely rough but otherwise I thought the team played very solid. We definitely had some trouble setting up in the Lightning zone at times and our zone entries in the 3rd (particularly in the last 5 min) were brutal, which is what I think was our undoing in the end.

Anyways, sucks to waste a good performance by Gru but no shame in keeping the Lightning to essentially a 2-1 scoreline after a long road trip. On to the next game.

  24. seattlesportsguy

This one was on me today guys. I had to work and couldn’t watch the game. I have no excuses. I can do better. I will do better.

  25. seataccrunch

LONG road trip, first one back home vs great opponent. Great game by Gru, love to see him keep this up reatbof year.

Road tomorrow for back to back is cruel scheduling. Tough stretch of games coming up!

  26. Olbaidon

I look forward to starting Jones tomorrow and winning 8-5 on the road after a back to back front end loss with zero practice days since our last road trip.

In all seriousness this was an easy loss to swallow over all.

I am still disappointed that this is like the 5th game that Grubauer has put up .900+ and played well when the team just can’t generate scoring chance.

But we did just come off a long hard fought road trip with no real rest or practice.

Tomorrow is gonna be a tough as shit game, followed up by 2 more games rapid fire before finally getting a decent break. Honestly if we can end this week 2-2-0 I’ll be happy, 3-1-0 and I’ll be absolutely stoked. Then get that 3 days rest to finally shut down Vancouver next week.

Lots of season left! We have 2 or 3 more strong streaks left in us, I feel it.

  27. Everyone looked off. Lots of missing pucks. Lots of glaring holes still. Terrible powerplay, etc. There was one powerplay that looked promising with some nice passing but mostly just messiness.

I’ll chalk this one up to going up against the scariest defense in the league.

My take while I was at the game:

    * Nobody should blame Gru he played great.

    * Tampa is a good team. They clog the neutral zone, we always looked outmatched there. Forcing us to dump or make stretch passes to lead to a breakaway. That style of high octane stretch passing play is a Vigneault specialty, not a Hakstol one (just comparing play style) and not something I like to see a lot of because it leads to turnovers. Not blaming Hak though. It was all Tampa.

    * They held us to 13 SOG til the third (or close to that #). That’s bad for us.

    * Kraken NEED to win faceoffs and need to clear the zone. They NEED to backcheck more and forecheck more. The forecheck looked nonexistent until the third. I know I say this every time.

    * The momentum shifted in our favor and we looked good but the pull was at a horrible time and sucked the life out of it. They need to hustle in those situations but I get it after a roadtrip.

    * The defense played well enough despite being outmatched. Our d-men scored. I like Dunn a lot and hope he improves his d-zone play (he is looking like a true #1) .

    * Tampa can fuck right off with the hold the puck behind the net to run down the clock and remnants of trap hockey neutral zone play they’ve been holding onto since the late ’00s.They got booed for it then and they did tonight too (only one instance of that but still).

**Tl;dr: Tampa controlled possession and we didn’ t challenge them enough. Other than that it was little things that sunk the ship. **

  29. I can’t wait until Gru gets traded in like 20 years and don’t need to read all these dumb takes about how he played well but the team sucked.
