Mikhail Sergachev roughing on Conor Garland – Tough Call Suspension Recommendation

Mikhail Sergachev was issued a fine from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for this sucker punch to Conor Garland. A helmetless, defenceless player take a full on punch to the chin, and it wasn’t even called a minor penalty. In fact, nothing in this entire sequence was enough to draw a penalty on any player.

  1. 6-10 games? Sergachev A) has a history, and B) well overreacted. I still think you're really looking at 1-2 game suspension. But the NHL decided that a fine was all that was needed.

  2. Do not touch the goalie. This is hockey, it's not hockey without this. More of this means a better game. Let the players police themselves. We have very different opinions and I hope you don't mind my thoughts.

  3. I agree with your take, and further, I think the referee who allowed it should also be suspended or demoted. On-ice discipline matters as much as the supplemental discipline

  4. Sergi overreacted for sure but recognized that and talked to the guy, Suspension probably well deserved.

  5. Maybe you should add a disclaimer, that your suspension recommendations are based on your system and not on the way the NHL currently handles those incidents, because there are still so many comments of people who seem to not understand it.

What I would also really appreciate would be a video on THE dumbest thing in hockey: fighting right next to an injured player.
I'm not against fighting, but I've seen many incidents, where a player was down on the ice, a teammate of the injured player started a fight right next to him and in the end, they fell all over the already injured guy. This is so stupid.
When you want to stand up for your teammate, you shouldn't do it in a way that puts him in even more risk when he's already down
