What do you make of the mess in Vancouver?

Canucks president Jim Rutherford was under fire on Monday for a number of reasons that ranged from the Bo Horvat’s negotiations, Bruce Boudreau’s future, the team’s performance and if they’re tanking. Craig Button shares his point of view on the mess that is the Canucks right now.

  1. In a mess now but wait until Bedard is wearing the blue and green… in 2030

  2. JR is and always has been a puppet for the owner. He did it in Carolina, he did it in PIT and now in VAN. He’s doing what is asked and what VAN has been doing for the last 10 years.

The best course of action is to fully commit to a rebuild. They don’t even need the #1 pick, they have enough assets to literally trade for it. You think whoever gets the #1 isn’t willing to pick swap for Hughes or Peterson?

  3. I don't often agree with Craig Button but in this case I certainly do. The mismanagement of this team is second to none. They are starting to make people want Jim Benning back again. They have done absolutely nothing to improve the teams defense. Even a person like me can see that OEL and Pylon Myers are the worse two defense in the league. Putting them together just exacerbates the problem. This is one time when two negatives do not make a positive. Send Myers to Abby and bring someone up from there to fill his spot, anyone.

  4. Even I'm starting to feel bad for the fans and I'm a Flames fan.

Vancouver should've been competing with the Alberta teams this year

  5. And that is why the Canuck fans should stop going to the games and funneling them money until they changed management from the top

  6. Rutherfords says that he wants to solve the Canucks cap issues and regain valuable cap space. But what does he do??? He signs a 29-year-old JT Miller to an asinine 8 MILLION dollar-a-year contract for 7 YEARS! That is the last thing you would do if you really wanted more cap space!! This is a player that's a decent point producer, but is NOT a franchise player! Not even close!! Yet that's how this team in a brutal cap crunch is paying him. Just mind-boggling!!

  7. I said it yesterday on another platform where there was a story about Bruce being replaced. Fire Rutherford first and then see what happens with the team. Guaranteed it makes for a much looser group that just wants to play hockey. Rutherford should never, ever be in the news this much. His job is behind the lights, not in front of them.

  8. Whether you like Craig Button or not, we need more tv guys who speak out with major opinions. So tired of most of the in between period panels who don't say a damn thing. Ron MacLean in particular is a joke.

  9. Spot on. Not everyday you agree with Craig Button but he’s spit on about this. A series of poor analysis from upper management, passing the puck. And how they treated Bruce, disgraceful. Bring in Tocchet, really? There’s nothing wrong with Bruce. Bring your own possee and a bunch of yes men ain’t gonna do dick.

  10. Its so Bad i may jump ship and become A Kraken fan Joking!!This teams going nowhere and this rebuild won't work.weve been dealing with it for 11 years now This fanbase is tired of it. Acquillini needs to Sell.Alvin and Jim need to go. Blow it up Trade for the future.

  11. It is disgraceful how management is treating Bruce Boudreau. Bruce is a great Coach who has never had a losing season. And then for JR to admit he has been interviewing coaches behind Bruce's back is horrible. Unacceptable. Maybe ownership should be wondering why they brought Jim Rutherford aboard.

  12. Benning inherited the messed I said before RHD Defense since last season retooled I like Bruce just Benning inherited core Benning last messed oel and Garland screw are capspace

  13. I feel like this isnt exactly a surprise. Jim Benning was fired for a reason. Jim Rutherford can't really do all that much, and I think he hasnt done a bad job. Mikheyev and Kuzmenko were good signings, Miller is slightly over paid but how many other players in the league are?

  14. 100% agree, management can blame the old management with the bad contracts but the fact of the matter is you have alot of good forward assets you can use to bolster the Blueline through trades.

  15. If they shot more. Screened more. Hit more. Forechecked more. Communicated more and blocked more they be in a better place. PK would probably be 75 to 80% with the current team they have and PP would be up by 2 to 5% as well. More games won. More goals scored. Less goals going in for the other teams

  16. You’re the only media member to focus on the Canucks real issue, defence, the other parts (goalies/forwards) are adequate to move forward with. Why they spent all their money on wingers is beyond me. Adding a Miller or Mikheyev was not going to help this team nearly as much as adding a top four defensive defenseman who could kill penalties. If Rutherford adds another mediocre winger prospect at this year’s draft, he should be fired. They really set the franchise back half a decade with the Miller deal. It seems obvious to trade some wingers for some defence, but I guess Miller and the other wingers have no value once they are signed.

  17. Well this should just be full miss information and people not having a clue what there talking about
