Referees do not make or break teams, and especially not on purpose.

Some human error may be enough to cost a game, but even *that* isn’t nearly as common as many people seem to think. Either way, if your team is having a bad season, it’s not because of this factor that literally every other team also faces the whole season. The better ones simply overcome it.

Nobody cares about your team enough to sabotage it, least of all salaried humans who have lives and families of their own to support rather than gambling that salary away (literally or figuratively) to affect the standings.

I think if you lose your stick, it should be perfectly legal to take your opponents stick and use it without penalty. It makes for an entertaining dynamic

  3. wolfcastle_goggles

I think they should go to a simple win/loss record system and you get no points for losing in OT

Bettman has nothing against Canadian franchises. They don’t win because of a combination of bad management, toxic fans and media, and not outsourcing instead of looking local to get top talent on the ice and in the front office. That last one is changing for some franchises.

Insane how many Canadians are responding in complete denial that Canadian media and fans are toxic. Complete lack of self awareness.

  5. BurritoFritos

not every big hit needs to turn into a slow motion suspension debate

  6. mickey91292

Let them fight, quit breaking up everything so quickly.

  7. shittybillz

    Two.

The refs will always lean slightly towards an American team over a canadian team in the playoffs.

If a goalie leaves the crease, especially behind the net and is handling the puck, you should be able to pin him to the boards to get it. If he passes the puck away prior to contact current rules apply

  8. nabbed911

Said at the beginning of this season.

The Seattle kraken will win a playoff series before the Leafs.

  9. FlamingCockSauce

Alexis Lafreniere, Kappo Kakko and Quinton Byfield are all busts. All three are 3+ years outside of their draft classes and are all leagues behind their contemporaries despite having such high potential. Sure you can factor that they may have some potential still, but most of what made them such strong prospects has run it’s course and began to fade over the years.

  10. TheFlaccidAcid

Stamkos has a better shot than Ovechkin

  11. RingoBingo14

Cale Makar isn’t the best defenseman in the league. He’s a very good defenseman, but there are better.

  12. C_Noticles

The refs aren’t actually as bad as everyone says. We just have the benefit of a better view

  13. Quiet_Nectariney

The benefit of physicality is more due to game management (calling even penalties) than “intimidation/wear”.

  14. Clean-Connection-656

Bennington’s antics are largely harmless and entertaining.

  15. StonerStarsFan44

Fighters can remove their helmets if they want to. Take away that stupid “mandatory visor” rule and let the players decide if they want them. Finally, to hell with offside video reviews.

  16. SoggyDoggg

All of the Canucks jerseys have been mid at best. The flying skate is overrated

  17. FriendlyKakko

Faceoff should be a jump ball with their hands like basketball

  18. Yegfixitguy

Everyone claims the Oilers are wasting their talent, when it took the Capitals, Avalanche, Lightning and Blues longer with their superstar draft picks to win a cup, than the Oilers have currently had McDavid/Draisatl for.

  19. foxphace

Canes fans are not redneck hicks from the backwoods. The rednecks you are picturing in your head do not care about hockey, nor would be able to afford a game ticket + parking/food/drinks costs. -Canes fan who was raised by actual redneck hicks from the backwoods

  20. Ryrace111

If the Goalie leaves the crease it should be fair game and treated as any other player, if you are playing the puck you can get hit.

  21. Selmanella

There is probably a serious lack of real leadership in the Oilers dressing room and McDavid shouldn’t be the teams captain. He should concentrate on doing McDavid things on the ice and not have to deal with all the rest of that teams bullshit.

  22. psyopsono

Canes fan who hates the Caps more than just about any other team than Devils: who gives a fuck about Ovi and Putin. Yeah, it’s not great, but there’s someone in this thread saying “if you support ovi you support genocide” and that type of sentiment is shared on every hockey forum. You’re also not allowed to complain about anything regarding the leagues’ moral values if you still support the Blackhawks.

  23. The digital ad boards aren’t bad. I don’t even notice them. Yeah, advertisement in general is annoying as fuck but I barely notice the digital boards

  24. RandomDeezNutz

Todd bertuzzi should have never been able to lace up his skates ever again after the Steve Moore incident.

  25. fogent94

If there’s a goalie penalty, your goalie goes to the box and your backup plays until a stop in play after the penalty is up

  26. I would take a young Crosby over a young McDavid if I had to build a team from scratch. Crosby offers so much more in term of leadership on and off the ice and has shown to be able to win. He’s not only a winner, he helps players around him be winners as well.

  27. Var_horsebox

Mcdavid is too ugly to be the face of the NHL.

  28. The-Canadian-Order

Columbus can make a deep run in 5 or so years

  29. ajhartig26

Get rid of the overtime loss point. A theoretical team that goes 30-21-31 (91 points but really 30-52) should not be ahead of a team that goes 45-37 (90 points).

    Or make points go 3-2-1-0

  30. moosenoise

The plexiglass should be doubled in height all around the whole rink

  31. Vegas’ gold helmets, jerseys, atmosphere, pregame show, etc. are exactly the kind of showmanship that defines Vegas as a whole. Most NHL fans, especially from the original 6, are just stuck in their way and afraid to acknowledge anything new that would help grow the game.

Full disclosure: I am a Golden Knights fan, and this take is hot even among other Vegas fans.
