The LA Kings lost to the Devils as Jonathan Quick continues to struggle. Will he be able to turn his season around? Did Todd McLellen not do Quick any favors by when he decided to use him? Did Quinton Byfield follow up his best game as a Kings with another solid performance? We talk about all that and more on this episode of Locked on LA Kings.

New Jersey has one of the best road records in the NHL. They are a very good team. LA Kings did not play well enough to win, and Quick looked so so. However, the Defense was weak. and the Blue Line was weak. But the Devils are a very good team.
Your analysis of both quick and mc lennan are spot on.
Same with Byfield.
He played what has been a typical game for him
I really want him to have some success but I really don't see it coming anytime soon.

It's on the Coach. 3 days off in between games. 5 more between the next. Start Quick on a back to back. We don't have a cushion in the standings.
Quick will always be a champion! It is sad to see him not doing well but I will never forget the championships he brought to LA.
Quick was terrible against NJ after the Kings got off to a 1-0 lead early on. Call it game rust, call it whatever, but some of those saves were fundamental. Byfield was beaten and/or lost so many puck battles up along the boards that it was ridiculous and there haven't been any flashes of a superstar when 55 is on the ice.
I'm going to look at the bright side that you mentioned Eddie tonight. It sure didn't look like the team was going in the right direction for a long time at the beginning of this year and look how they came together.
I just want to hand it to the fans who have hung in there and stood by the team all year. We don't know the inner workings of the team but I think overall we would all have to agree that the team is trending in the right direction. Seattle being good will make it tougher and clearly Edmonton is a dog that don't hunt now…..but can Seattle keep it up much longer?….we will see…..Go Kings Go and enjoy some family time guys….you have worked hard these first several months of the year. 🙂
Thx again Eddie for my daily Kings fix! Am a diehard Kings fan, since 1967. Without a top goalie (Copley is average & untested in playoffs) or a good backup, I don't expect Kings to finish any better than 3rd or to win 2 playoff series. But if Blake can get a true #1 goalie this summer, they could be a Cup contender. An xlnt LHD would help too. Btw, agree that QB had a disappointing follow up game ystrdy; he had 2 very bad turnovers, at least. But quite a few players did poorly too, incl Quick. Stars game is important but 6 game roadie is critical to have a chance to show they are ready for prime time!
He’s trying to pump up Phoenix Copley‘s stock trade him then bring back Cal Peterson 💡
Every thing happens for a reason. Trust the force Luke I mean Eddie 😊GKG
These days shooters are simply too good at hitting their spots, and have too much net to hit with smaller goalies like Quick as compared to bigger goalies like Copley, or Blackwood. Even snipers hit the posts more against a bigger goalie than a smaller one… They (shooters) simply have less net/spots to hit, it's simple math.
Brownie went one year too many playing out the last year of his contract. Quickie is doing the same thing. I really hope he goes out on a high note, but…
Eddie, you brought up some really good points about Todds decision to start Quick against New Jersey vs San Jose…
TMAC makes some very questionable decisions at times. Earlier in the season a lot of us, myself included, were questioning TMACs time here with LA as head coach, but their play as of late has quieted that talk, but it still doesn’t erase his questionable decisions at times. You’re spot on with his decision to play Quick against a top team in NJ and and his seemingly unwillingness to EVER call a time-out when the Kings are obviously being outplayed, continue to baffle me. There are some questionable line combos and shortening of the bench decisions that I also don’t always like or agree with. QB sure is good at one thing, and that’s testing the patience and speculation of Kings fans. He sometimes looks promising (not great but promising) and then at other times, he looks forgettable and very mediocre at best. Hopefully Quick can salvage what might be his last season as a King and hopefully QB can start improving his game and decision making and start putting together multiple games of good decisions, scoring chances and flashes of what everyone saw in him to draft him 2nd overall. For now, Copley is our man, and he looks to be fairly solid. Big frame, quiet in net and seems to be gaining the confidence not only in himself but from the team in how they play when he’s in net. I won’t run out just yet to buy a Copley jersey or anything, as I don’t see him in the big picture here in LA, but I will say I’m thankful for what he’s doing, as he’s a pretty big piece as to why they Kings are still in sitting in a playoff position. GKG
Quick ain't getting enough games to really say how he is doing or what he is still capable of doing one game here and there is crap and I hope he goes on a tear sometime this year with the kings and makes u eat crow Eddie haha lets go Quick GKG 👍😎
Yes I agree Eddie Quick should have started against the sharks and not new jersey right now and yes the kings got to play better in front of Quick and give him some better support
If Byfield and turcott was playing up to there projected potential we would b looking really good I think it's really to bad there not even close to doing that 👎
