I mean how the refs have been lately, and it's not just in hockey, but pretty much all four major sports has been getting a lot more sus in recent years, and when you mentioned sports betting, something clicked in my head.

This is my first comment on your channel but I’ve been watching your vids for a bit now and have never seen you complain about the refs but here it was totally justified. It really sucks when they clearly interfere with the game. I’m a Tampa fan and even I could see it, seems to happen all the time when teams travel north of the border. I'm not sure you are going to hear many leafs fans defending the refs there. They were booing the refs at home when the penalties were going their way. As the most biased fan base even they knew this was fixed for them and don't think they wanted to win this way. Even the players didn't look like they wanted to win this way.
That's why I stopped watching nfl bro. A bookie told me 30 years ago that the sport was fucking rigged.
Apparently Maurice has had a history with this ref, since it's the same ref that ejected him years ago. Jets fans have mentioned this ref still has it out for him.

I will be the leafs fan to help you out! There was a lot of bad calls in that game in favour of the leafs and while i definitely agree with you tonight, I see a lot of people who are saying that the leafs get the refs side every night which I can say is completely untrue. I’ve seen the other team blatantly getting advantages as well. I think the most important part of this conversation gets thrown away because everyone’s too busy arguing what team got the advantage which is the fact that this year especially the refs seem to be blatantly fixing random teams and random games and it’s something that should really be looked into. Been watching your videos for a bit now and just want to say thank you for the entertainment, you really deserve more attention than you get!

the refs are just bad. when they took bennett out of the box, the leafs player they put in had done nothing. complete phantom call. liljegren was behind the goal line and slowly moved out to cover bennett in the slot.
they arent bias in any particular way. just incompetence. and the idea your battling the refs any more in toronto than elsewhere is demonstrably false. since 2018-19 the leafs are 28th in penalties drawn, 29th at home. panthers are 3rd in both btw.

It didn’t get worse, it just gets seen more because of the internet and social media. It’s kinda like what Will Smith said about racism, it isn’t getting worse it’s just getting filmed. If anything you would think more eyes on the gambling would make it easier to get caught.

Reffing has always been bad, it’s cost the leafs multiple playoff series, I think the Leafs probably should’ve lost tonight (as a fan who was there). I think the leafs get favoured at home during the regular season, but it goes away as soon as the playoffs start. Toronto hasn’t won a playoff series in 20 years, so I have a hard time believing that it’s rigged in their favour. I agree with your take otherwise. Good vid as usual Jaws.
At the start it was super dumb that the leafs were getting all the calls their but how the hell did they get the wrong team for a penalty and then the wrong leafs player, and then Matthew‘s got a penalty for being punched in the face. NOT TO FORGET The Florida goal that was caused by the referee body blocking Mitch Marner away from the punk leading to a turnover and the goal.
Although there is something to be said about the three games before the Buffalo game where some extremely bullshit calls all went Florida’s way.
To be fair you’re playing Montreal next and they’re doing a reverse retro night, Montreal is notoriously bad in the reverse retros. Over the two years that they’ve been done they only ever won one game in reverse retro, something like 1-15-2.
As a previous Ref, your job is not to affect the game, but police it. That was not policing, that was stepping into to ensure a teams success. If they were genuine calls, I wouldn’t have an issue, but they all were inconsistent or not even close to calls. This game seemed determined.

I don't buy into the refs being biased towards Toronto in the big picture. A look at how games are called against Toronto would actually show you the opposite.
As for games, Leafs or not, being rigged I'm not buying that either. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I think the issue is with the NHL. Their rulebook sucks. They give refs too much leniency when making calls. There's no standard.
