Leon Draisaitl Deserves More Respect

With all the talk about Connor McDavid and the Oilers recently, I figured I’d make a video about the guy who seems to fly under the radar despite his unreal numbers, Leon Draisaitl. At the time of this upload, Draisaitl has 35 points and 18 goals in 17 games, yet no one seems to be discussing how impressive this is. So hopefully this helps you to see how truly great he is.

  1. As a Australian who knows jack shit. I agree .. Drysatyle is a legend! Don't fuck with something that ain't broken. McDavid and Dry..the stat's are there

  2. i love when he scores and shows no emotion of whatssoever. pure german. NO FUN ALLOWED ( i'm german myself … lets go Leon!)

  3. My first experience watching Leon is when he came to Brandon with Kelowna and destroyed the Wheat Kings in the 2015 WHL finals. I knew we had a special player then.

  4. Draisaitl won the Hart trophy, I don't think he is underrated. He does play on a team with McDavid. Even if he has similar point totals McJeebus's ability to do everything at top speed and toy with NHL competition is just second to none. He makes it look like hes playing against beer league competition. McDavid definitely deserves top billing. Anyone in the league right now if they played for the Oilers, including Matthews and Ovechkin, would play second fiddle. I think Connor is the type of player who would perform the same playing on say the Blue Jackets or Coyotes with very little supporting cast. He'd still earn top billing and likely lead the league in points while Draisaitl is a fantastic player who gets it done but is not quite that level.

  5. Trust me, no one in Edmonton doesn’t realize this. The only people arguing he is being “carried” are people who don’t watch oilers games

  6. Great video, but I’m not sure why people keep stating that others claim that Draisatl is carried by Mcdavid. I haven’t heard anyone make that argument. He’s overshadowed by 97 for sure, but nobody claims Mcdavid is responsible for Draisatl success.

  7. The true underrated player is Huberdeau. The guy has been on fire for 4 years now yet I havent seen no-one talking about it.

  8. His goals are trash. Most boring highlight tape in the nhl

Without mcdavid he has 15 goals in 48 games.. that’s an average display of a 25 goal season

  9. The fact that he only took $8.5m and scores as many goals as Mathews and points as McDavid. Means that he should be the most respected player in the league. If Edmonton were to trade McDavid and use the $13m to sign quality players. There is a very good chance that they would be a much better team.

  10. Draisaitl has 58 points in his last 50 game which is good but come on that's not out of this world also

82 game pace there whole career

    Year 1 AM34 40 goals 69 points
    Year 1 LD29 4 goals 20 points

    Year 2 AM34 45 goals 83 points
    Year 2 LD29 22 goals 59 points

    Year 3 AM34 45 goals 88 points
    Year 3LD29 29 goals 77 points

    Year 4 AM34 55 goals 94 points
    Year 4 LD29 26 goals 74 points

    Year 5 AM34 65 goals 104 points
    Year 5 LD29 50 goals 105 points

EVERY SINGLE YEAR Matthews has been better

  11. Great Video for a real good player! Draisaitl is also like McDavid able to do everything with the puck what he wants to. So his numbers are realy crazy good. But for me his best thing is his Teamplayer character. For him evervbody is important for the team and one piece for the victory. He is a big man attacked personaly each game and each minute of the game, never being unfair or hitting somebody. He has no Superstar allures. Seems he is the guy out of the neighbourhood who you need to play on a frozen lake against your neighbour city. He always does his job! Also for his Nationalteam! I am from Germany and can say I love to see him playing Icehockey. He is a great sportsman and for myself a real Superstar!

  12. Leon learned to play hockey in Germany, where it is a marginal sport. Imagine if he could have learned it in Canada? As a young player you have a completely different support in Canada than in germany.

  13. Absolutely, most underrated player in the league

If he were in a big American market or Toronto/Montreal he'd be heralded as the 2nd best player in the league hands down. His trophy case and stats easily support that placement.

But being from Germany, playing in a smaller market in Canada, and being in the shadow of McDavid all work against him in terms of league wide recognition. Major Malkin syndrome.

Best passer in the league while also being the 2nd best goalscorer. He is a very rare player.

  14. This year he didn't even appear in the two best lines of the season. I know it's because Matthews and McDavid are centers too but still it just feels wrong.

  15. Mothaf@ckers forgot about Drai. Favourite player. Balanced strengths. Truly outstanding. Best interviews lol.
