It’s going to take a minimum of Our 1st for this year, Holtz, and one of our defensive prospects (not Hughes or Nemec)
Then we need to pay to dump enough cap to fit Meier – Johnson and Tatar. If they value Tatar/think they can flip him then it will be cheap. If they don’t it may cost another prospect or lower pick.

I’ve got to assume that if the devils did actually make this move it means we see our window as now.
Handing over our first for this draft means we’re done with the rebuild, or at least moving away from it.
This isn’t a bad thing, just what a move like this would signal to me.
That said, if we could make the dollars work to get him and keep bratt, whew. However this also does put pressure on our d. Sevo will be gone, maybe graves, and nemec will need to be ready for next year. Our d depth will be much less. I don’t see how we could afford this. Also not sure what sort of long term deal Timo would require.
Cap is going up to give us some breathing room at least

Soooo lopsided. So so so lopsided as are most of these trade articles at P&P. Also I’m not sure how the financials of any of those deals work. Here’s what I see:
Devils get: Timo Maier (50% retained salary)
San Jose gets: Alexander Holtz Yegor Sharangovich Kevin Bahl Rights to Shakir 1st round 2023 pick
They get Holtz, a still viable scoring prospect, Rango a 20+ goal scorer under team control, Bahl to make it financially work, a solid defensive prospect with an ELC and a 1st rounder.
Our biggest chip in any Timo trade though is Mike Grier. He knows our organization and might actually have a sleeper or something that HE wants.

The problem isn’t finding assets for the trade, the problem is the one-way ticket to cap hell. Very difficult to re-sign Mercer, fill the bottom six, and there might not even be tons of money for Luke Hughes in 4 years.

These articles on pucks and pitchforks are so poorly thought out. They always seem to ignore many variables like future cap space.
The only thing that keeps me from really wanting Meier is that insane QO he is due. If they can agree to a better contract before pulling off the trade that would be far less than 10 mil a year, go for it. If not, he’s just a very expensive rental. Plenty of other targets out there, especially with teams openly ready to tank for Bedard.

Send Holtz. Not because he is horrible, but we can’t fit him anywhere. We have Zetterlund, Bastian, and soon Clarke that is the speedster that we need.

Any trade for Meier that included Holtz I’m out on tbh… dude tore up the AHL at 19 and has had a few very strong games in NJ when he actually gets ice time

No, nah, andddd no thanks.

These trades are wild lol. It’s not gonna take a gajillion prospects and picks for a winger on the last year of rfa with a 10 mill QO. It’ll be a combo of secondary prospects, a veteran, and a 2nd and 3rd round pick.
pretzelogically
220 lb 35-50 goal scorers in the prime of their careers don’t grow on trees.
Honestly, I love the guy but if it means we have to let Bratt go UFA after next year in order to make the long term cap work to sign Meier I’m ok with it. I don’t think Haula, Tatar, Wood, Graves and Severson will all be coming back.

I would like us to let things simmer a while. We trade for him we are giving up a lot of pieces we already have. It’s called depth. Let’s see how far this team can get us.. Remember Palat is just on his way back. He could be epic if he gets back to his normal type of playoff performance. If Fitz can get another piece for a lot cheaper and keep all the pieces we have…..hmmm.

1 and 3 are options IF it’s a sign and trade.
All of these are so far off in value.

Sharks don’t have hands. Checkmate.
Evidently, Rangers also interested. https://twitter.com/frank_seravalli/status/1615439733508694045
