Im starting to wonder how much cash the Aquaman clan has these days. I understand they are billionaires, but real estate development is extremely tricky and liquidity can be challenge (see donald trump).
I bet they are taking a pretty big hit with rising rates and slower development.

Good. Why the hell would we need a new coach at this point?
Upstairs-Camera814
If I was the owner, I wouldn’t let them get rid of Bruce either. I would not be paying for three coaches. They would have to make do with what they had until his contract is up.
TaiterThoughts17
Seravalli has become louder and less accurate as he’s gone off on his own.

I do not believe Rutherford would be here if Aquilini was handcuffing him. Nothing in that press conference hinted at that either – this is purely speculation and the media capitalizing on hard feelings.

This kind of seals it for me. They never wanted Bruce, ownership did, they got stuck with the coach they didn’t want and it all went to shit from there. I still think it’s bush league to throw Bruce under the bus to the media the way they have but I can at least understand being frustrated that you weren’t able to make the move you think the team needed. What’s the point of having the job if you can’t even change the coach? Makes me wonder if they even want Horvat or if they’re being forced to try and sign him because the people above them can’t handle losing the captain of a sinking ship.
This was always my fear when they inevitably fired Benning. It doesn’t matter who they bring in because all they wanted to change was the messaging. They had no qualms about the team or the plan in place. They just wanted someone that could do some radio hits so they can sell more tickets. There was 0 point in bringing in Rutherford and hyping up this new and diverse management team if you won’t even let them change the coach. Either let them do the job you hired them to do or don’t hire them at all. Quit pretending like they are autonomous and have full control over this team. They don’t. Benning didn’t. This is all on ownership. Just a complete failure from top-down and it doesn’t matter who they bring in at this point. The funny thing is that it didn’t even work for a full season. They thought they’d be able to pick up from where they left off last year and they nosedived face first into the ground. All those radio hits sure seem to have backfired now the team didn’t make any changes and ended up making the same mistakes they have for the past three seasons. It would be funny if we weren’t all fans of the team, and in a sense it still is.
Honestly, at this point it feels like 1+1 = fish. Nothing is really making sense. The President comes out and throws the coach under the bus, the players are confused, they start off bad blowing leads left and right completely tanking any goodwill they manufactured with the tail-end of last season. Our number one strength in goaltending has been one of our biggest weaknesses, but even that doesn’t matter because this team has always needed strong goaltending to be even remotely competitive. Remove that and the team is exposed for being the house of cards that it is. On top of all that the league is gridlocked due to a flat cap and the team can’t even really make the big trades that we desperately needed to make going back to last deadline. It’s the most Canuck thing you can ever imagine.

They’d be paying for 3 coaches, I can understand the reasoning. However just make the move and stop embarrassing Bruce.

This should and hopefully will fully change the narrative in Vancouver.
Onwership runs the ship, Ownership guides the ship and in Vancouver Ownership sinks the ship.

Aquilini hates having to pay people **not** to work for him, so it wouldn’t be in the least bit surprising if Seravalli’s report is true.
Ironically, however, Aquilini has also demonstrated time and again that he is one of the top owners in the NHL at repeatedly having to pay people not to work for him.
He may be a hockey fan, but he has no clue on how to build a hockey team.
As such, the Vancouver Canucks as a hockey team are essentially a reflection or embodiment of their owner.

In logical terms we shouldn’t change coaches because we are at the bottom of the league standings and we are kinda close to getting Bedard if we keep tanking and the teams below us start winning. In addition to that we are past the midway point of the season so it’s gonna be an impossible trek to the playoffs.

But if they change coaches now, there’s probably time to do at least one MORE coach swap before the end of the season! How many can we get on the payroll?

How dysfunctional can one team be?
Canucks staff are leaking that the owner is holding this up?
Shows a pretty serious lack of respect towards ownership.

I don’t agree with a coaching change, but one upside could be it gives the new coaching staff time to learn about the team and organization this year, so they are better prepared for next season. I’m not a fan of hiring Tocchet.

Ok that makes no sense. Why would JR be talking to other coaches (as he said he has been doing for months) if ownership doesn’t want to change it. Isn’t that something JR should run by the owner BEFORE interviewing candidates? Lol
